Brian
Hi all, My Prodigy Advanced uses a twin RJ45 plug lead to connect the throttle to the base unit. Its an unbooted straight connection lead of around 8 foot length. My problem is I keep standing on the lead and either pull the hand set out of my hand or tripping on the lead, especially when its close to the base unit, but I also need the length of cable to move around a little! I would like to replace it with a coiled type of lead e.g. As used on telephone handsets, but so far I have been unable to track down a supplier. Loads of RJ45 conventional cables for sale as "Patch leads" but nothing in coiled form. Any ideas on a supplier?? ( I have tried both MRC and Gaugemaster with out success). Cheers Brian

RMweb Gold Tony_S Posted March 8, 2010 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 8, 2010 I've never seen a RJ45 coiled cable. I did find this. I have no idea if it is straight through or crossover though. Tony
cromptonnut
Do you know of anyone who works in IT and has the equipment so you could make your own, if you got hold of a length of coiled cable?
RMweb Gold Donw Posted March 9, 2010 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 9, 2010 I seem to remember that in the old days telephone switchboards had a weight on the cord to pull it back. Perhaps you could come up with something like that. Donw
noiseboy72
Do you know how many cores of the cable you need connecting ? 4 core cable is easy to find and I can make you up a cable with RJ45 connectors with the pinout to suit. I will see if I can find an 8 core cable in coiled....

JohnDMJ
If you have the facility, an ordinary telephone handset cable will do the job with a little modification! Prodigy only uses pins 1, 2, 3 and 4. If you take the Gaugemaster DCC11 extension plate to pieces, you'll find that pins 1 & 8 are connected together, as are 2 & 7, 3 & 6 and 4 & 5. One solution would thus be to source a coiled telephone cable and fit the 8 pin RJ45 connectors to the ends instead of the 4 or 6 way ones supplied. If using a network cable, ensure that it is a Straight (rather than Crossed) cable!
AMJ
I just use standard CAT5 network cables with RJ45 ends (parallel in computing terms not crossover). I had problems with the one supplied with the handset at an expo, in the laptop bag I had a 3m plugged it in and worked without any issues. In the loft I have a 5m cable enabling me to wander! Working in IT I have access to many....... Maplins etc can supply for a few pounds.
Crosland
The request (which I think was answered 5 years ago) was for a coiled lead

Brian
Blooming Heck... Talk about resurrecting old posts! Five years ago I wanted a coiled RJ45 lead. I obtained one from Farnell as per the link provided by Andy in post 7. Works very well too. Had I wanted a straight RJ45 lead they are a plenty, but at the time I needed a longer lead and didn't want to keep tripping over a long lead hence a coiled RJ45 was needed. JZ
Two years on, I am resurrecting this again. I too would really like one or three for my Prodigy. The Farnell one is showing as no longer manufactured. There are a few from the US on eBay, but is anyone aware of a UK supplier?

WIMorrison
But they still have the cable and sticking a couple of connectors on the end will only cost you a couple of quid.

I think though I will wait and get some from the US. After all, for only a couple of quid more, I think it's worth having them professionally fitted.
