Bombala Railway Station

Bombala Railway Station is the end of a long branch from Goulburn. The station opened in 1921 and closed in 1986. The line south of Cooma officially closed in 1989. Many sections of track have been taken out making a return to running highly unlikely. This isn't the UK. I was only able to have a short photo stop here because the weather was windy with rain. I will go back sometime and take more photos. There was a proposal at one stage to extend the line to Orbost in Victoria and it was very much supported by the towns people of Bombala. However due to political state rivalries the idea didn't eventuate leaving the townsfolk of Bombala very disappointed. Orbost is only 160km from Bombala. it would have made a second line into Victoria.

The photos are:

The station from the railway side. The station building is made from precast concrete.

The goods shed

The load bank with severed railway lines

The yard gantry crane with some preserved wagons, no doubt brought in by road. The little hut on the right distance is the weigh bridge.
