ThePurplePrimer
Apparently there were plans for a halt at Broadsands that were approved but I can,t find any evidence it was ever actually built - so I might build it myself ( in model form obviously ) Would you care to speculate as to what you think it might have looked like if it ever had been built ? RMweb Gold gwrrob Posted August 4, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 4, 2016 https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disused_railway_stations_(Riviera_Line)#Broadsands_Halt A low platform and a pagoda hut probably similar to the one now at Greenway now. The last time I went past ( a few years ago ) the halt at Greenway just had an old van as a halt shelter - is there a new building there now ???? ThePurplePrimer
Oh I think you mean the platform like Greenways with a Pagoda hut ?

ThePurplePrimer
Does anyone know of a drawing of that Eardington station building - preferably one that doesn't involve me buying yet another book.

cary hill
I think Broadsands Halt would have been perched on a steep embankment judging by its proposed location: So I'm thinking a run of sturdy wooden steps (staircase?)up to the platform and the rear of the platform supported on wooden stilts. As for what the halt would have looked like, given that nobody really wanted to spend any money on it and the local bigwig Churston didn't want any tourist riff-raff in the area, I'm guessing something like an expanded platform length version of the miniscule Britannia Halt further towards Kingswear might fit the bill. Below is an "extreme" version of what I had in mind re steps etc all slightly OTT with the Pagoda almost in mid-air - Mitchell and Newlyn Halt on the Chacewater to Newquay Branch: The halt was "moved" along the track later and rebuilt on the other side where the contours must have been more favourable. The new build looks similar to an enlarged version of Britannia Halt if that had been replicated at Broadsands.
ThePurplePrimer
Could there be any possible justification for signals at a tiny halt ? It would be a single line but it does have a tunnel mouth ( in my version ) a short distance in each direction

However I seem to recall that there was Distant Signal (for a level crossing) quite near to Penhelig Halt and it probably wasn't alone in that. Garry Morris
A halt was planned and built on this line called Preston Platform between Paignton and Torquay it is likely that Broadsands might have been very similar if built. Unfortunately very few pictures exist of the Preston station. It was on an embankment up from the Radcliffe Hotel towards Torquay.
