How long did this loco carry this livery? A quick browse of Flickr suggests it wasn't very long?

Off the top of my head around 3 years? 88-91 roughly. Then went on to receive IC Mainline livery and named Derby Evening Telegraph.

Cheers, Anthony

class47.co.uk is the best resource here..

http://www.class47.co.uk/c47_numbers.php?index=2&jndex=1&kndex=61&s_loco=47561

it looks like it ran for 10 months with the number 97561, from September 1988 until July 1989, but was named in May 1989 & repainted in this livery. (as Lima modelled for approx 3 months).

I vaguely seem to recall the Lima model coming out at just the the time the loco was renumbered, making the model out of date almost immediately.

it looks like it was renumbered 47973 July 1989 and ran for upto 14 months until renamed "Derby Evening Telegraph" in September 1990.  (as now modelled).

It feels like a lot longer, probably to do with the fact this loco attended nearly every open day going and was heavily photographed in the press at the time, so I'd imagine this is going to be a popular one.

If the date on this picture - https://www.flickr.com/photos/queenfanjohn/6807164239/ is correct it was repainted in Intercity by April 1990.

Thing is this one looks right whereas the Lima one had a toy like appearance IMO

Have been hoping for a decent interpretation of the livery ever since seeing it at the MCR150 exhibition so ordered tonight (non dcc version) along with a pack of fencing to make it post free,

I couldn't get the link to work, but your probably correct,  as here's a picture from May 1990 in Intercity livery and unnamed.. (it wasnt named until September it was named) hence the "upto" in my line.

It looks like it's a few weeks since it was repainted in this view.

http://kentrail.org.uk/folkestone_west.htm

So it looks like this guise lasted 9 months or less...

indeed this picture from September 1989 shows a rather less than standard BR arrow and a patch up repaint from a prang..

http://www.hondawanderer.com/97561_Gloucester_1989.htm

so now were down to 3 months ...

So after 30 minutes googling, last Edit before bed: I see on the RCTS website a reference to it being unnamed and being repainted in Doncaster Works in April 1990.., trust Doncaster to over paint a Midland job.. just need to know when it arrived now, googling doesn't find any pictures after 24th February 1990 until April 1990, still with the dodgy BR Arrow, I also overlooked a reference on the 47 website which said "Plates removed at Derby Etches Park on March 8th 1990".

Here's Skipton 24th Feb 1990

https://www.flickr.com/photos/94823469@N03/16974440132/in/photolist-e9at1U-rRYrEU

so it looks like 3 months it is...as modelled, and 9 months with this livery / number / name.

I'm proud to say it was one of the liveries I inspired via Rail....

One of it's first trips out in gleaming new paintwork was to Blaenau Ffestiniog, and it was a regular for a time on a summer-saturdays Mk.III stock & DVT to Llandudno. Maroon livery was unusual at the time long before EWS adopted it. The model looks smashing.

Burton Railway Society picked a hot sunny day for their FFESTINIOG FLYER railtur from Derby to Blaenau Ffestiniog on 16th July 1989. Hauled by Midland red liveried Class 47 No. 47973 (ex. 47561) Midland Counties Railway 150, 1839-1989. The train is climbing up the Lledr Valley through Dolwydellan on the Conwy Valley branch.

Hi class 37418stag,

For what it's worth, I saw it once at Birmingham New Street arriving to couple up to a railtour.  It also appeared at a number of Open Days in that era too.

It was painted maroon when it was 97561 and I believe it was used by the RTC for its test trains - though not sure if it did much of that after losing its 97561 identity...

Hope you find out what you need!

Cheers,

Ixion.

Hi class37418stag,

Seeing that photo reminded me of a time I saw it (maybe as 97561?) in St Deny's station (Southampton area), pulling Laboratory 5.  It would have been ~1990.  Sadly, I had walked over the station bridge just 5 minutes before, then I saw it from a footbridge south of the station - I had never run so quick as it was only waiting for the barriers on the Portsmouth line to lower.  I believe I got a photo of the rear DMU coach somewhat in the distance but none of the 47.  So for modelling purposes, it can be said that it operated on the Southern's Southampton to Portsmouth line, if that helps?!

Cheers,

Ixion.
