Although only in limited numbers, due to quality issues, some Heljan Lynton & Barnstaple locos did make it into shops last year. This is one I recently acquired and fixed up (details on my workbench soon) along with a matching Peco wagon (I've painted it's insides).

News today that Peco have announced the L&B vans with guards compartment and Festiniog bug boxes as on the way for 2018. David Gander of the 009 society has posted it on FB and verified by other members at the Ilton open day this weekend :)

No idea, only reported on NGRM today and I'm guessing it came via the Ilton show so I expect it will appear in RM next week and soon after on the order list for traders.

Yesterday I bought the latest release from Peco, the L&B centre observation coach. That prompted this train, made up of four different type of L&B coaches.

A close up of the two most recent releases, on the left is the all third.

I'm planning on replacing the lamp tops on the newer ones so they match the originals.

Those above aren't mine, but today I was able to buy one. Here it is with the matching rolling stock available from Bachmann.

Liveries covering other eras are or will soon be available. We've never had it so good in 009.

Fourdees are at it again with another exclusive model from Peco. This time it's a longer L&B coach, the livery matches their other coaches.

Another loco from Fourdees, from a new range of Hunslets. Using the familiar Farish 08 chassis these have the added fun of outside valve gear. This one is a freelance 0-6-2T model based on "Leeds No.1".

More RTR goodies from Fourdees. They have now produced a four wheeled open wagon, based on W&LLR prototypes. (also available in grey)

FDW_04.JPG.74946f1ce53661aad472146be2234385.JPG

It comes fitted with Peco couplings and Farish wheels, which are non-magnetic.

Comparison with a kit-built W&LLR sheep wagon.

Note that the sides of the wagon bow out slightly. I don't know if this by accident or design, but it looks a lot better than sides that bow in.

Finally some photos on my layout.

First is a W&LLR-esque scene with a modified RTR loco and a kit built brake van.

Finally an all RTR goods train. These wider wagons are a better match to the other Fourdees stock.

I know PaulRhB has already posted photos of these, but I think they warrant being added to this topic .

Released by Bachmann USA as Skarloey Railway coaches, they are also scale models of the Tallylyn Railway ones. The locos are also from Bachmann and can be modified into scale TR models with the help of Narrow Planet.

Hopefully they will be available in UK shops next year or soon after.

Bugs!

001.JPG.57f808a5936080e6096e4de4bf98182a.JPG

FR bug boxes in Victorian livery from Peco.

These are very low riding vehicles with the wheels just under the seat tops. Here is a comparison with A GVT coach.

These models share common chassis parts which explains why the bug box is longer than it should be.

There now seems to be so much RTR 009 available now this topic has mainly become redundant. One notable omission has been a small goods brake van suitable for a freelanced railway. This gap has now been filled by the latest release from Bachmann in their Skarloey Railway range, available in two liveries.

Here used as intended:

I think the red one works well as a generic brake van:

The finish is a bit glossy and could do with toning down. The buffers and coupling hook will probably be redundant in most cases.

The Bachmann 009 couplings plug into NEM sockets.

Hot on the heels of the brake van is a box van in matching liveries:

This uses the same body as the brake van, but without the duckets and foot boards.

A useful addition to the SR stock.

These look fine models.   I must be one to bring up their price, though.   Especially direct from Bachmann here in the US.   Each of those vans runs $50 or so, on average.  Cheaper to grab them via a UK hobby shop.

Are you planning on fussing with them at all?

Even an 'official' supplier (RoS) is cheaper than that, an odd situation indeed.

I'll be removing the buffers from the red ones to use as freelance stock on my own railways.
