Weathered Stock

I would suggest that you paint the underside in a basecoat of Railmatch frame dirt.

Then perhaps go to Paul Bartlet's invaluable web page to find pictures of real examples.

I would then use weathering powder. I use a mixture of black, earth brown and hints of white.

But the must have powder for me is DCC concepts track rust. That is my base powder as it were.

Hope this helps

SouthernBlue80s

Thank you for your help on this. It is much appreciated.

Regards

Les

Glad to help Les.

That is the great thing about RM Web we all help each other. I have had great advice from people on here about areas of the hobby I am not very hot on and help with finding parts and so forth.

Two Parkside Dundas 21t Re-bodied I have just built. Minus buffers at the moment and still a little more work to be done.

The dogfish I am quite pleased with as it was sent to me in dutch and was broken. So new rails made and bits glued back on and weathered into faded engineers green.

(poor light today - so not great pics)

The two Dutch OCA/ZDAs (Bass) I have weathered featured on this thread, I will sell as they are bit late for me. As I am focusing on early 80s. So any of you mid to late 80s chaps interested in them as a pair message me. I don´t want the earth for them, just for them to go to a good home.

I have new rake of 16t minerals which I an itching to weather - so I will post up pics of them next

16t minerals. They still need a bit of tweaking. Like the data pannels need knockingback on some and the old numbers removing. But I have enjoyed doing these as there are so many variations on the finish on them, some of which are shown here.

These 16 tonners look really nice.

I noticed some have the MHO TOPS coding - are these from the Fox transfers sheet? I've never been able to find what an 'MHO' actually is or if it ever existed...

I asked on RM web some time ago about this and I wonder if anyone had come across any more information recently?

Thanks for posting the photos - look forward to seeing some more of your work.

Thanks

The bodies are finished. The under frames were not in those pictures, but I have just finished them off.

I have just checked which transfer sheet I used and yes it was the Fox Transfers one. I would have like them all to have have the COAL tops data panels on but Fox give you a variety and only a few with COAL on, So I just used them all, as they are not cheap.

As for MHO I an uncertain to exactly what that stood for.

Here is Paul Bartlett´s site you might find a few pictures here

If not perhaps message him,  as if any one would know it would be him. He goes by the name of hmrs Paul on here.

Cheers

Steve

Fantastic weathering, Steve. Really like the minerals. Have you used any fading techniques on the railfreight VDAs? I'd love to know more about your methods. Look forward to more pics.

Steve.
