GoingUnderground
Wonderful photos, even though it was a pain to use the copy & paste method to see them. The Gornergratbahn is instantly recognisable by the side by side pantos.

RMweb Premium DIW Posted October 24, 2009 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 24, 2009 Hi Keith, Great couple of follow-up pictures of Interlaken West, too - with three platforms still, and the sideings still there near the station - now there are jus tthe sidings remaining near the main road. Here are some pictures showing what has happened since you were there: July 2009 - This shows the livery which has replaced the chocolate and cream on the Berner Oberland Bahn. It's not a bad looking livery, it's just that chocolate and cream looked so much better on the carriages in their setting. (Well I think so!). July 2009 - But the other side of the train, the station is being dug up. The run-round loop has gone, but there seems to be a goods siding being put back. It will be interesting to know if that is what is really happening; I haven't seen goods in Grindelwald for years. July 2009 - This is what the Wengernalp Bahn are using on the Grindelwald to Kleine Scheidegg line. These are powerful sets, they have the advantage over the old stock in seating capacity, speed and disability access. Just the asthetics have fallen back. The observation coach in the centre of these sets gives great views of course. July 2009 - This is what the Wengernalp Bahn are using on the Lauterbrunnen to Kleine Scheidegg line. These are dual coaches which are pushed by the older locomotives. They again have more seats that the coaches they replace, and disbility access too. June 2008 - This shot shows the changes at Interlaken West since your pictures were taken. Incidently the level crossing in the picture is not there now, there is an underpass being built for pedestrians and cyclists, and the platforms are being extended to allow full platform access to the DB ICE sets (Mk 1) which run the Berlin to Interlaken route. Hope this helps, Dave EDIT - I'll have to re-visit when Andy and the team have the pictures upload thingy sorted.

RMweb Premium NGT6 1315 Posted October 28, 2009 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 28, 2009 Oh yeah, I love that street running setup in Chur . Wonder if they're having many train-on-car accidents there - I figure that would most definitely be the case here in Germany, what with plenty of motorists struggling even in the vicinity of trams! Wonder if they're having many train-on-car accidents there - I figure that would most definitely be the case here in Germany, what with plenty of motorists struggling even in the vicinity of trams! We have it here in Aarau too. I always find the comaprision in Health and Safety between here and the Uk interesting. Here you could literally walk onto a high speed line and in the UK fences everywhere. Russell, you must have blinked and missed it! It was snowy here last week http://www.bahnhof-s...heidegg_big.jpg? (live cam feed) but today the platform is clear of snow and the sun umbrellas are up again Dave Link doesn't work? However, it was a little cold last week, we are at one of the lower points so sometimes we have the whole winter with very little snow
RMweb Premium DIW Posted October 29, 2009 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 29, 2009 Link doesn't work? Try it now, Russell - when I submit the post, the middle of the link disappears into dots. It worked OK after I posted yesterday, but as you wrote, not any more! I've removed the http bit and the '?' at the end - it is working at the moment.....
