Thanks for those. There is a real mix of prices there. Some are real bargains others cheaper to buy new.

A lot of model shops trade in pre-owned or secondhand but only a few list items on there website

Our local model railway shop has quite a large range of secondhand at present

Alton Model Centre has an excellent, and sensibly priced, 'pre-owned' section but I don't think Paul lists it on the 'net.  If you want to pay through the nose for 'pre-owned' then Rails and Hattons are the places to go judging by some of their adverts and Ebay entries - on occasion Hattons have even offered 'pre-owned' models at higher prices than other places have the same thing available new.

Rails Ebay shop sometimes have "or best offer" prices and have accepted sensible offers from me before

AC Models Eastleigh do second hand via Ebay and I have had good stuff from them

Trains  4U have used stuff on their website but I have not bought used from them

I agree with others that S and J are good

Some shops appear to offset some bargain prices for new models with second hand prices which are ridiculously high.

Not OO I know, but I have always experienced good service and attractive prices when buying from Contikits.

Rails will accept offers but if you are prepared to be hard nosed and walk away when they make a counter offer that you don't find palatable then you can get a reasonable buy.It depends on you.....if you know the market.Hattons pre owned is a joke.Rails do guarantee for a period.I suspect also that they siphon off new stock onto eBay .Postal charges are just £2 whereas by Internet mail order it's £4:50.and sometimes their ebay prices are actually cheaper than shop stock.Bizarre ...

I have also bookmarked these shops but I never bought there:

I can confirm Ian's good service (Junction Box). He has very often irresistible prices.

I have bought a Heljan Class 58 from Kings Trains and delivered very fast and well packaged and exactly as described - cannot fault them.

I have bought several from KJB both direct and via eBay and delivered fast and well packaged and exactly as described - cannot fault them. Cheaper to buy direct though. I buy a lot from Rails but usually when they have special offers on - currently waiting on a 66 from them as it happens.
