LNERGE
My experiences with the Woodhead electrics is very limited. A few glimpses out of a train window in the dead of night and one trip up to the Woodhead route where we stood lineside for what seemed hours before a pair of 76's on an MGR ground past. My main memory of the sound was it sounded very gear mesh orientated. The only time i saw an EM2 moving was being towed towards March, obviously not making any of it's natural noises. I'm hovering around trying to make a decision about buying an EM2. Am i better going for a sound fitted version or should i stay with the memory my one encounter with a moving 76?
E3109
I've done two or three EM2 tours in the Netherlands and although I adore those locos and their little brothers, I wouldn't lose any sleep over how they sound. Without wishing to be direspectful to Gresley's Finest, they sound like glorified tramcars, if you can hear them at all. Gonna see the priest in the morning, to repent ;-)
