BB0849
Hello everybody, I'm probably one of the younger members of this forum at only 17 years old. I had always been interested in trains from a young age, inevitably starting with the humble Thomas the Tank Engine range of wooden locomotive and track. As I became older I started reading some books on British locomotives and got the inspiration to try model railwaying. When I was about 9 or 10, a Hornby train set, the 'Devon Bell' was purchased and that was that! Since then, my interets have specialised into Maunsell era Southern Railway and the LNWR, specifically the Webb era; soo many interesting designs! My layout i'm afraid is not nearly as fantastic as the ones on this forum as it was mostly built when I was 11 or 12; before I was knowledgeable to create a really good trackplan or model well. My favourite thing about the hobby is locomotive and rolling stock kitbuilding which I have been doing for the last year and a half. This probably seems a bit odd coming from a 17 year old but it's true! Ever since I read about it through second hand coppies of Model Rail (back when they use to do locomotive kitbuilding) I knew that I wanted to try it. My first kit was a LNWR 42' boogie coach from London Road Models which was a joy to build. Then I had a bit of a narrow gauge fling and put together Peco's 'Talyllyn' with aryldite. The body kit is hopelessly inaccurate and needed lots of remedial work. Currently I'm working on an excellent South Eastern Finecast kit of a River which although extremely complicated is the best kit I have yet built. It's almost finished and is running well. Stay tuned for a workbench thread which will be coming soon. I can see myself moving to EM in the future. I have learned a lot from this forum as a 'lurker' and hope that I can contribute a bit here and there, discuss topics and learn some more. I look forward to being a part of this great community. Ohmisterporter
Welcome to the forum BB, you are never too young or too old to start with model railways. You have started off the way many of us do, the main thing is to enjoy what you are doing. You will find plenty of advice and information on here. milkman matt
Welcome aboard Bryce. It's good to see that there are still young people interested in this hobby. I am currently "encouraging" my grandson to take up the hobby as he has shown something of an interest in Poppys trains even though I don't actually have a layout myself. The Blue Streak
Afternoon Bryce, always good to hear from another Sandgroper. There Seems to be more young Aussie blokes getting on the pommy outline bandwagon and RM web than from the Mother Country. Look forward to seeing some of what you are building.

BB0849
Hello everyone, Thankyou all very much for the warm welcome. Yes Ross, Australind is not too far away from where I live. It's a small world that's for sure. Good luck Matt with your encouragement. It's so important to have a supply of young modellers. BB
