gwernol
The restoration of my 1955 modified-BL Moes locomotive has just been completed, by the excellent team at Statfold. She is now back at the Old Kiln Light Railway, where she will be running occasionally. Here's a gallery of photos showing her going through the restoration process. Ruston
That's not what I was expecting. i thought it was going to be one of those locos with what looks like a saddletank and smokebox over the engine. Perhaps I'm thinking of another manufacturer?
Nearholmer
Ruston, They produced multiple models over the years - I think the ones you have in mind were an early type, which I have a suspicion were fitted with single-cylinder horizontal engines, possibly hot-bulb engines that we would call "Akroyd-Stuart" in the UK. Edit - Well ...... I found a fascinating video ....... this one seems to have a vertical hot-bulb, but I can't tell how many cylinders. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ut6O8Opz_lI Edit 2 - well, the NMMD website describes it as a single cylinder, two-stroke, hot-bulb, with water cooling, and an output of 12hp. It also says that there is one of a subsequent model, with a two-cylinder diesel, preserved at FFM, that I know also looks like a sort of ersatz steam loco, although slightly less so. Edit 3 - all you could ever wish to know, including a cracking photo showing the blow lamp used to warm the bulb prior to starting http://www.industriespoor.nl/Nering.htm, and a good potted history of their loco types here https://www.moteurs-moes.net/locomotieven-locomotives/ None of which should really divert from the cracking-good resto that is highlighted by the OP! Ruston
That isn't the one either. This is what I thought it would be. I saw this somewhere in France in 1999. Could have been Tacot des lacs?
Nearholmer
Aha, that is the slightly later design, with the two-cylinder upright diesel, the same as the one at FFM. I think it was called a model 2AL, but I freely confess to not understanding how their model designation system worked. The one that I posted a picture of above was model CL.
