Old Brue Quay

Started as a project for the anniversary year and as a way of displaying my 50 year-old S&DJR rolling stock, without having it shown up by the much more detailed r-t-r offerings now available, phase 1 is almost complete. This was to build a representation of the Wharf and some of the S&DJR fleet. It is far from finescale. Chris Handley's book, The Maritime Activities of the SDJR, has been the main source of reference material. It includes 2mm/1ft scale drawings of two of the fleet.

If I wanted to model the whole wharf complex I would need a room about 11 metres by 3 metres. So it is very much an impression, rather than a scale model.

You can see some photos of the progress so far at http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/gallery/album/4186-the-highbridge-wharf-project/ The scenery, ships and rolling stock were put on display at a talk on the Missions to Seafarers, with a temporary length of track tacked onto the back of the quayside. The ships need to have their crews boarded and the dockers need to be told they have a day's work waiting for them. I didn't have time, before the talk, to run out any mooring lines and the propellers and rudders need sticking under the blunt ends.

Looks great, certainly captures the flavour of Highbridge.

Thanks, Corbs! Perhaps I should find one of the well-known views online and link it, to show the real thing. Like this one http://coxresearcher.com/albums/burnham/highbridge%20wharf1.JPG

or this one

Great work, Phil. As Corbs says, really captures the look of Highbridge Wharf. Chris Handley's book is a good read.

Spot on.

Rob.
