I wanted to record the passing at the age of 94 of David Llewellyn Jenkins, former member of the Farnborough Model Railway Society, the Model Railway Club and most recently a long time member of the British Railway Modellers of Australia - BRMA.

Dave, as he was known to his many friends, worked at the Royal Aircraft Establishment in Farnborough prior to his migration to Brisbane in 1956. He quickly became involved in organising the hobby in Brisbane and was a leading member of a group that ran hugely successful exhibitions at the Brisbane City Hall right through to the late 1970's. When AMRA took on the mantle of organising these exhibitions, Dave would frequently exhibit his much beloved Finden, a typical GWR branch line layout, or occasionally entertain us with wonderful displays of London Transport artifacts and memorabilia. I had the great privilege of joining with him or helping him with these displays on many occasions.

When BRMA began, Dave was an early member and the "Southside" group in Brisbane was for many years one of the most active sections of the association. They even hosted the first ever national convention in Logan City, again under the leadership of Dave. His contribution to the BRMA was recognized several years later at the Nudgee convention when he was given the honour of life membership.

In his later years, Dave put a lot of effort into writing down his life story and copies of the first edition of this booklet, entitled "The Finden Story", were provided free at one of the early BRMA conventions. He never quite finished revising it but if anyone is interested in a copy please contact me through RMweb.

As one of the last pioneers of our great hobby, I feel it is only fitting to remember a man who dedicated much of his life to the presentation and publicity of model railways both in the UK and Australia.
