BrushVeteran
I can advise that there are no spare chassis blocks left at either Howes or Heljan in Denmark. The model has been out of production since 2011.

Can someone point me in the right direction ?? Hi, Olivias were selling several types of Heljan chassis on E-Bay recently. Don't know if they still are. Hope you find one. MickD. John Tomlinson
Even if you can't find the chassis, you may be able to get hold of a cheapish second hand loco on ebay or similar. The early ones seem to go for around £50 plus, and IIRC Olivias wanted £42 for the chassis alone.
Anthony566
Looking online it seems there are none available. ... i may just strip them down and keep the parts and maybe sell the bodies. .... I do need to check my other Heljan locos to see if they are also expanding, its a lot of money going down the drain if they are all doing this. Fat Controller
Would it be feasible to fabricate a chassis out of plastic sheet, then install the Heljan mechanism within? I've done this with various elderly Lima and Hornby bodies, fitting new-generation central motors and bogies.
RMweb Premium MickD Posted March 13, 2017 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 13, 2017 Hi Anthony, Try this link, http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Heljan-OO-Gauge-Class-47-Chassis-Motor-Complete-With-Lights-DCC-Ready-/222432294849?hash=item33c9ff77c1:g:~JkAAOSwWxNYvsOZ Hope you have better luck with this one. tamperman36
If you dont manage to get hold of a new chassis would it be possible to use a cutting disc and cut 5 mil off each end of the chassis casting?
Anthony566
Brian im not sure i have what it takes to do that Thanks for the link MickD .... tamperman36 i am in the process of filling down each end of one of the chassis as this one does not look as bad as the other one so i might get a bit more time out of it but the other one has started to crack along the sides so i think that one will need replacing. I have still not checked my other Heljan locos ill need to do that at the weekend.

Anthony566
There are some new ones for sale on eBay at the moment That's really odd I did not see those ones yesterday ... Chassis order Thank you.
Bristol_Rich
If I've done it, anyone can. You just need to make sure you assess it's viability before even attempting. One of my chassis has grown and twisted throughout the length, bellied over the length and bulged across the width and vertical sides. I've kept it purely to see how much it keeps distorting! Anthony566
So i have setup the replacement and it fits perfectly.. I have been through my locos and i have 10 more Heljan class 47's .. Does anyone know if it was specific locos that are effected or all Heljan class 47's ?? I have 12 of these loco's and have looked at 9 of them so far and only two up to now are affected. John Tomlinson
From memory it is only thought to be some of the earliest issues. There is somewhere on RMWeb a thread on this and the specific locos thought to be affected were listed, you could try a search. John.

brigo
Hi John, that was my first port call but i failed miserably to find any loco detail. . I simply put "Heljan 47" into the search box and got a number of results about chassis problems. The first one had a list of locos and their problems. http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/12798-Heljan-class-47s-do-i-own-%C2%A32400-of-scrap/ Brian

I have now been through all 12 of my Heljan 47's and only two of them were to tight the rest just slip on and off very easily. I now have new replacement chassis for both loco's.
