Popular Post Andy Y
The far-sightedness of Roye England and what was created from his vision undoubtedly resulted in the benchmark for ‘high end’ modelling but it isn’t unique in the field of fine work hence this thread. My particular interest is scenics and tree making. I learned all that I know in that field from the kind advice given by Gordon and Maggie Gravett and learning from the work of Martin Welberg in The Netherlands and Giles Favel on here. Yes, I'm inspired by those who model rampant growth very well!
RMweb Gold Re6/6 Posted April 2, 2017 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted April 2, 2017 (edited) Thanks Andy. That is delightful. I've never seen Barmouth Jcn before. Edited April 2, 2017 by Re6/
Andy Y
For me another inspiration is what's taken away and what's added to make great scenes. Here the usual visual tell-tale signs of N gauge are taken away leaving a great scene from TomE. The placement of non-railway staff in bright modern dress give a time-stamp. Even if the 56XX wasn't there Barry Ten's inclusion of a chapel and hazy mining background place a geo-reference on the scene.
RMweb Gold pirouets Posted April 2, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 2, 2017 Andy, I remember you showing that picture a couple of years back when you organised the trip to Pendon and if my memory is correct, you had another of a robin sitting on top of a spade. Its a crap picture but this corner of Loftus Road was pretty impressive. I wish I also had the trackside view of this.
Guest
Yes, I'm inspired by those who model rampant growth very well! Netherhope.jpg Most of us struggle to avoid kinks in a tight curve, but in this case, it's just perfect, isn't it? Outstanding.

Thanks Pete. It's only a small experimental diorama and the kinks weren't planned! Andy's excellent (some may say cruel...hat...coat..!) photographs bring out stuff that l hadn't noticed!
RMweb Gold Re6/6 Posted April 4, 2017 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted April 4, 2017 (edited) One of Tony's photos of LB from his thread had to go up on this one. Just so crisp and lovely. I couldn't resist one of Andy Y's pictures of 'Engine Wood' by our own CK. Must declare an interest here.... I've enjoyed many hours of fun driving it! RMweb Gold Re6/6 Posted April 5, 2017 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted April 5, 2017 Trevor Nunn's S Scale 'Nunstanton' snapped at Utrecht in 2011 Henri Cibert's P87 'PLM or Nord' loco. (l don't have a lot of knowledge of French steam!) also snapped at Utrecht 2011. His attention to detail regarding the scenics and prototypical trackwork was first rate. A small part of Hölle, snapped in 2009 at Utrecht. A very large (and expandable) P87 'Freemo' layout from Bavaria. The scenics were of a very high standard and it was the first time that l had seen a static grass applicator which they had designed and built before Noch introduced one onto the market. A strict timetable is 'de riguer'. Needless to say l completely cocked it up when invited to drive it! I was 'booked in' at a precise time in advance. Of course CK got the hang of it straight away!
RMweb Gold Barry Ten Posted April 5, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 5, 2017 Shell Island, 'nuff said. Indeed - the true art of minimalism and a perfect evocation of a time and a place. Pics taken at the Machynlleth show, I think, circa 2009.

w124bob
The Logansport and Indiana Northern RR a fictious ho basement layout, Midwest, grain hoppers and Alcos. Whats not to like, by US standards it's not large and the owner has not been afraid to change things over the years. It's featured in the US modelling press and on various forums, I have well over a hundred saved images on a hard drive. -
RMweb Gold Re6/6 Posted February 10, 2018 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted February 10, 2018 (edited) CK and l were kindly invited to spend a bit of time to view an operating session on Ted Farmer's lovely 'Tiverton' in EM. A couple of pics for starters. Edited February 10, 2018 by Re6/6

RMweb Premium Neil Posted February 11, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 11, 2018 I'm afraid that I'm late to the party again, but what a lovely positive concept for a thread. I'll add a few photos I took in Utrech last year if I may. Inspiration in the largest scale came by way of a pair of gauge one layouts, very similar in style and scope, both (relatively) small shunting planks. At the polar opposite size wise was a beautifully crafted z gauge layout which really exploited the scale's ability to depict a great depth of scene. I'd love to be able to name the layouts and credit the builders but I can't lay my hands on the details right now. I'll come back and edit once I've found the list given by the shows organisers.
RMweb Gold Re6/6 Posted February 12, 2018 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted February 12, 2018 .....but what a lovely positive concept for a thread Thank you Neil. No arguments or contentious stuff here! There's always some fine modelling to be seen at Utrecht. Here are a few snaps from 2009. The amazing work of Emannuel Nouailler
