SDJR on RMweb

I have just come across this thread in the modelling zone and I occurred to me that it might be helpful to start a thread that could be used to draw attention to S&D material from any zone. If you spot a post or are posting one yourself in another zone, just put a link in here. If you make it a new post rather than an edit to an earlier one it will get to the top of the heap and be seen as new information.

1/4/2017 Having had a 'conversation' with Chris Y, I am now going to use this post to pull all the references together and into some semblance of order.  A major task which will probably include some c**k-ups. Please point out the error of my ways. I am always very happy to learn from them what know better than I.

Let's start by trying to divide into prototype and model. As some threads will doubtless have some of each I think we will say

Mainly prototype

Stations and infrastructure

Pylle Station - mainly C21st photos http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/111942-pylle-station-sd/

Rolling stock

Operational information - timetables. spotting logs, train composition,

Associated activities - mines, quarries, breweries, peat extraction, shipping

Mainly model.

If this is already going on somewhere and I haven't spotted it - apologies - I will redirect my finds there.

I suppose I had better set an example and put Dad's photos and my other photo gallery albums in here

Every boys dream.

I thought Someone would like this. I was left on my own in this !!.

43216 Footplate at Highbridge Wharf. (Browny 127) from on the coal.

I was naughty and drove it up and down the line, But I was not caught !

But am glad I wrote the number on as I would not remember after 63 years.

( the photo was taken by me so you can use it for modeling ect, with my compliments)

Morning, Phil. Did your Dad record why the 2P was there?

Rob

I'll see if there's a note in his spotting log - when I have a minute. I have the impression that more than one loco was dumped there towards the end, from what other people have said about unusual sightings in the far west! I refuse to call it the branch. It was there first!

Rob

Hi Rob - this is the log - not very enlightening - but he had a good time on the B&E line! The next page has D849, 3817 & D868 as well on the 9th  Edit _ have now seen a further note on 26.10.1961 - 40563 is still there with g.s. against the entry (goods shunting possibly, as c.s. is certainly carriage shunting elsewhere) - 2219 is also so marked at the same time.

I don't think that I have seen this one above

Highbury Colliery now Foxcote New Pit - model

http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/38581-highbury-colliery/

edit - or this one -

Gurney Slade. Over the Mendips - model

http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/87560-gurney-slade-over-the-mendips/page-1

I am glad this thread got going, I have found loads of stuff I hadn't come across before. I suppose as a reference thread we should try not to put too much extra non-link material into it, says he who has put a photo and log book page in already. I am quite prepared to hide those. The photo is in my Somerset Central album already and I am quite happy to start a new album in my gallery with SDJR related log book entries in it. Does keeping this mainly to links, so we don't lose them among photos and the usual RMweb meanderings, seem like a sensible idea?

Does anyone have any views - for or against - having non-RMweb SDJR links in this thread or - are they available elsewhere - or would a separate thread be better?

I'd be more than happy to see S&DJR links from anywhere if they provide extra information. The link to the BWMRG has been a revelation (I'm trying to do a compressed version of BW in N Gauge), but you can never have too much original information.

Phil

I think links to other sites are a good idea, if this is to

be a research source, as you are proposing.

What does Andy Y say?

Noel

Andy says - fine - on-site and off-site links! He suggests I use the OP to pull all the references together, so I shall have to work out whether to try to classify the links and if so into what groupings. What have I let myself in for?

"Wright Writes" looks like a case for treatment. It has become a

whole Forum within a Forum, and could be closed, and restarted

with contributors opening indexed threads; to tidy a situation

that looks like it has got out of hand.

"Little Didcot" is another that could go the same way.

Fortunate there is the "Search" function, but easier reads on a topic

would be nice.

  • 1 year later...

If you're happy with modelling materials to be added alongside source material then Peedie Models have produced a set of etched windows and doors for Evercreech Junction's stone buildings. They're available in N gauge but, if they're not already available in larger sizes, just drop Peedie a quick line and he'll almost certainly zap them up to bigger scales for you.

The thread is on 'the other forum':
