RMweb Gold ikcdab Posted March 26, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 26, 2017 I've put together a rake of the glyn valley 4 ton granite wagons. I can't find any info on wagon numbering. I know there were about 200 manufactured and the photos show wagons lettered with numbers from 100 up to 202.....but I have just seen a model numbered 678. I have Milners 1984 book which doesn't help. Can someone give me the numbering sequence? Thanks
Quarryscapes
Just had a flick through Boyd to see if he had anything, nothing pertaining to numbers but there is a reference to Model Railway News October 1968 regatrding the wagons, may be worth a look

RMweb Gold mcowgill Posted March 26, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 26, 2017 It may be that 678 was an 1893 Ceiriog Granite Quarry wagon, these were numbered in a separate sequence to the GVT stock. The rough notes I have culled from various sources but mostly Rails to Glyn Ceiriog Volume 2 (Milner & Williams, 2015) are: All the 4 ton wagons have basically identical bodywork, variations are restricted to the underframe/braking Cambrian Wagon Co, Cardiff: V-hanger bolted to solebar, with conventional main-line style pushrods to brake shoes Midland Rly Carr & Wagon Co, Shrewsbury: More horizontal brake lever attached to shaft bolted to bottom of solebar (off centre), brakes are cam operated slate-wagon style 104 x Cambrian wagons built 1889-1890 (Including numbers 61-120) 101 x Midland wagons built in batches of about 30 1891-1894 with a final batch of 20 in 1902 (likely to be numbered within the range 131-265) 205 Total All wagons single ended due to D shaped coupling spacer, never turned and so brakes will always be on same side Livery: New - Red oxide with black ironwork, white shaded black lettering, although some appear to have unshaded lettering Cambrian wagons had a makers plate on the solebar Confirmed numbers: Cambrian - 63,64,65,88,96,100,101,118 (probables: 74,76,99,103,105,106,107,112,117 - numbers confirmed but brakes not visible - assumed to be Cambrian) Midland - 139,141,154,155,156,157,161,170,171,176,191,193,202,214,221 Ceiriog Granite Co PO wagons 20 wagons (2 batches of 10) in 1890 & 1893, both from Cambrian to the same design as the earlier GVT batch. Batch 1 numbered 121-130, second batch randomly numbered (presumably mixed up with the numbering series of the Granite Company's standard gauge wagon fleet) Minor differences in the bullnose of the buffer beam tips compared to GVT stock Makers plate on 1st batch as per GVT stock, second batch had the plate moved to the top plank/left side of the end facing Chirk Livery: New - Chocolate brown, black metalwork, plain white lettering and numbers c1928 - Medium grey with white lettering Martin
