Possible new commissions?

Are Rails of Sheffield intending to commission new models based on the companies that used Sheffield?

Lots of options GC, MR, LNW, GN, LYR!

Regards

From what I have seen Rails have always commissioned Limited Editions in the traditional sense -  being an engine that is selected that matches a type already done as part of the main range of a manufacturer.

This has been done with the likes of Lima, Bachmann and Vitrains I think.

I don't think they would change to commission various models direct themselves and continue to operate as they have done for some time. If that's the case, then you'd be looking for suggestions that they could do in the future, but Rails also normally go for a diesel limited edition for something that's popular in what was modern image and has now diversified to be several different periods.

All that just changed!

I have been directed to this thread by Rails Of Sheffield from another thread.

My suggestions for future Limited Edition OO Gauge models are:

37254 in Colas Rail livery with Cardiff Canton nameplates and depot plaques.

37403 in BR Large Logo livery named Isle Of Mull.

47812 & 47815 in Blue with the Rail Operations Group lettering applied.

57002 in DRS Revised livery named Rail Express.

66055 & 66066 in DB Red livery with names.

66136 in DB Red livery with the London & China stickers applied.

66506 in original Freightliner livery named "Crewe Regeneration".

66526 in original Freightliner livery named "Driver Steve Dunn (George)".

66528 in Freightliner Powerhaul livery named "Madge Elliot MBE Borders Railway Opening 2015".

66585 in original Freightliner livery named "Drax Flyer".

66619 in original Freightliner livery with new Freightliner Genesee & Wyoming Company branding/logos and named "Derek W Johnson MBE".

66743 & 66746 in Belmond Royal Scotsman livery.

66849 in Colas Rail livery named "Wylam Dilly".

66850 in Colas Rail livery named "David Maidment OBE".

I think that all of the above locos would make fantastic new Limited Edition models especially Freightliner 66528 and 66619 with the new Freightliner livery and branding.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

That all looks a bit 'niche' to me.

Maybe not all of the above locos would be popular but when you compare how many EWS 66s have been produced in OO Gauge to Freightliner 66s their is quite a difference.

When you think about the WCRC Maroon livery which was considered unpopular the Limited Edition 37706 model has sold out at Bachmann and Bachmann have just announced a WCRC Maroon Class 47 so the livery must be popular enough to produce a loco as a standard release model.

I certainly think that their is a market for many of the above locos.

DRS 57307 in 'Cable Theives' livery

Europhoenix 37608

66743 & 66746 in Belmond Royal Scotsman livery.

Agreed, really surprised at least one hasn't been done already

They've signed up to be a corporate member of the NRM (see their website home page)

Surely some of their new commissions will be NRM-related, the dynamometer car has already been announced.

Rails could commission examples of steam locos that were allocated at Millhouses shed, http://www.brdatabase.info/sites.php?page=depots&subpage=locos&id=471

which was the nearest to their store - according to BR Database, quite a few classes available or planned in RTR could be offered:

MR 1P 0-4-4T

Black 5

Jubilee

LMS 4-4-0 Compound

2P 4-4-0

3F 0-6-0

BR Std 5 4-6-0

Ivatt 2MT 2-6-2T

3F 0-6-0T

Royal Scot

Ivatt 2MT 2-6-0

Patriot

K3

Of the locos allocated at Millhouses, 45407, 45590, 73156 survive in preservation (78022 also survives, but not offered RTR)

Oooooo, a commission wish list thread.

I'll join the game and raise the stakes. I'd like them to arrange the production of some N gauge rolling stock and, in particular, third rail EMUs.

I emailed Bachmann a couple of weeks ago regarding Class 37s.

I emailed regarding the following locos been produced: 37038, 37059, 37069, 37218, 37259, 37423, 37601-37612.

I would really like to see Bachmann upgrade their tooling for the above Class 37s to incorporate the new noses (door, flush and headcode) and working wipac lighting.

Also to upgrade to the noses carried by 37601/603 and 604.

There are going to be several livery options to model soon including:

  • DRS Plain Blue with DRS lettering as worn by 038, 059 and 069.
  • DRS Compass livery as worn by all of the above locos.
  • DRS Revised livery as worn by 038, 059, 069, 218, 423 and 609.
  • DRS Basic livery as worn by 423.
  • DRS Plain Blue with Europhoenix logos as worn by 608 and 611 for approximately a year.
  • Europhoenix livery as worn by 608 and 611.
  • Possibly HNRC Orange for 607 and 612 when they are sold to HNRC.

Any other liveries that 601, 602, 604, 605, 606, 609 and 610 may gain now that or once they have been sold.

I also told Bachmann that it's likely that the remaining DRS 37s in Compass livery wouldn't be wearing the livery for much longer until the are debranded and sold.

I was advised that the information would be passed to the sales and marketing department I think it was.

I think now that the above 37s are carrying more liveries it would be fantastic if they were produced.

I for one know that if most or all of the above locos were released I would buy as many possible.

I bought four 37402 models late last year to pay someone to convert them to four of the above 37s but it's too expensive. This would mean that it would cost around £230 per loco. I'm sure that Bachmann can produce them for a lot less. I also think that the above 37s would sell well.

Also considering that only 37605 in DRS Compass livery has been produced as a Limited Edition by Olivia's Trains and R3Sprays their are a lot of running numbers and liveries as mentioned above that haven't been produced yet.

I would advise other people that would like the above Class 37s to email Bachmann and they might just upgrade the tooling and produce some or all of the above locos.

DRS - Nearly £3K worth of models wishlisted there at current prices - but above you're saying it's too expensive to get 4 class 37s converted.....

I've reported this thread as I am sick to the back teeth of blooming pipe dream wish list threads!!!

Indeed so.

Rather than simply listing stuff they want on this thread, if people do wish to put forward suggestions they should be limiting themselves to one or two suggestions WITH detailed and captivating reasons why.

Simply saying loco such and such was allocated in the area does not count however (though it may help strengthen the case of a loco suggested for other reasons).

A feeling of De Javu  with the Wishlist Poll done every year here that gets the box tickers out for their pet railway!

I don't know if this has been posted before on this ever expanding thread but Rails is a Sheffield business through and through. For my "suggestion" pay a visit to Cutlers Hall in the city and there mounted on the wall and proudly displayed is a cast headboard made by Firth Brown of Sheffield for........

"The Master Cutler"

This ran on both the exGC and exGN lines in two different guises,so a couple of different train packs to include the new Bachmann Thompson vestibuled stock or some Pullman cars .

Just a thought.

That's very true but my point is that if Bachmann upgrade their tooling to produce Class 37s with new noses and working wipac lighting they would probably be selling them at around half the price that it would cost me to pay to have them converted including the price that I have paid for the original locos.

The £230 per loco would also not include the postage their and back to me so that's probably another £20 for signed postage options.

That makes the total per loco including the base model and the fitting of new noses and working wipac lighting to around £250.

Bachmann could probably produce these and retailers could probably sell them for £140/£150 each. That's at least a £100 saving per loco.

That's why I would rather wait and hopefully Bachmann will produce them as ready to run models as opposed to paying more to have them converted.

R3sprays also did 37602, the 37/6 are a minefield for detail differences as most are different.
