RMweb Gold Dagworth Posted April 14, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 14, 2017 I'm trying to build a typical West Coast substation for Ravensclyffe and I've crashed into a slight problem. The one I'm building is based on the one at Prestbury (Cheshire) here https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@53.2913831,-2.1455856,3a,15y,347.03h,80.76t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1s5dV8BqKyhWdUOd3Le3aRrg!2e0!7i13312!8i6656?hl=en I have drawings and photos from Clive of the one at Headstone Lane but only the one side. Then I found this one https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@52.9465241,-2.2741915,3a,75y,283.53h,61.67t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1spp46aaGqrg9LgGoODN1igA!2e0!7i13312!8i6656?hl=en Do they all have the four doors on the side away from the track? I'm really struggling to find other photos of the non-track side. Anyone able to help please? Andi
RMweb Gold stovepipe Posted April 14, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 14, 2017 The substations were generally known as 'feeder stations' when built, which might help you find some more information, such as this site. http://www.westcoastminiatures.com/relay.html All 12 did appear to be of the same standard building design, but some have now been replaced by modern container/portacabin style buildings since the 90s route modernisation. Here's the one at Wolverhampton (Willenhall) which does appear to have the same arrangement of doors. https://www.google.co.uk/maps/place/Willenhall/@52.5834321,-2.0665428,38a,35y,243.45h,59.5t/data=!3m1!1e3!4m5!3m4!1s0x487098cc4dbf49d1:0xefaf2b8351503df0!8m2!3d52.585017!4d-2.057635?hl=en Some of the other approximate locations were Wolverton, Rugby TV, Tamworth, Stechford, Norton Bridge, Kidsgrove, Crewe and Allerton. RMweb Gold TheSignalEngineer Posted April 15, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 15, 2017 The one at Washwood Heath which actually stands next to the Birmingham - Derby line at Aston Church Road, is a mirror image of the Willenhall one. The Aston - Stechford line crosses the Derby line running parallel to Aston Church Road. https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@52.4993745,-1.8580635,84a,35y,180h,39.52t/data=!3m1!1e3?hl=en

ess1uk
Most of the ones I've been in have been similar to what you have linked to. The newer replacement are metal boxes supported on a metal frame.
