Spitfire2865
Its rather cool how Japan fully embraces pop culture into its every day environment, though the article seems pretty outdated at this point.

wollastonblue
It has been nicknamed the Darth Vader train, and even has had some Star Wars Vinyls put on a couple of the units.

RMweb Premium dhjgreen Posted April 19, 2017 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 19, 2017 (edited) I have ridden that train a number of times, runs (ran?) from the airport on a manmade island to Namba. There were alpha and beta services, alpha being limited stop. Just an ordinary local EMU when you take the helmet off, still pretty cool though. The last time I was on it was 15 years ago sadly. RMweb Gold Dunsignalling Posted September 28, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 28, 2017 2017's "futuristic" may well become 2037's "retro", but unfortunately, (if it lasts that long) it will have to pass through being 2027's "old fashioned" to get there. GeoffAlan
They say beauty is in the mind of the beholder! In this case, only after getting smashed out of your mind on Sake and eating Fugu from the the wrong parts of a Puffer fish.
sir douglas
they are very open about their culture even though it is often looked on as "kids cartoons" its a common thing over there to do things like this for anime, like putting the characters all over the sides or on army helicopters and on cars & vans, there is particular name for mini vans with anime girls all over it but i cant remember https://www.google.co.uk/search?tbm=isch&q=anime+car&spell=1&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiuhKPwpcrWAhWPb1AKHaFWA64QBQhXKAA&biw=1600&bih=779&dpr=1#imgrc=_
multivac
They modified a complete Shinkansen as a humanoid robot from the Evangelion TV series. The outside of the train had a full colour wrap applied and I think the interior of at least three cars were modified. I cannot see anything like that happening in the UK. RMweb Gold tetsudofan Posted March 9, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 9, 2018 Things have certainly changed since I left Japan in 1999 after living there for 18 years. Can't remember anything as shown in these pictures, all I can recall are the manga comic books which had quite a large following. First meeting with anime for me was a couple of years or so ago when I attended a Japan Society function in Manchester. Could not believe what I was seeing at first..... Always been fascinated by Japan and its culture, but since reading the book 'Lost Japan' it would appear that a lot of its heritage is disappearing as the cities grow and the typical home becomes smaller? multivac
Tetsudofan I respect someone who has lived in Japan for so long. For a country that has history in abundance it it a shame that so much is changing over there. My interest in Japan started in the 1970s when I was learning Karate; but the language and writing character barrier made study difficult. Thank goodness for translation software making the language easer to understand. They had some great train designs though. Aren't there manga and anime based on many of the individual railways of Japan too? IIMHO if the Virgin East Coast Class 800 "Azuma"s were being introduced in Japan there would probably be a manga, anime, mascot and a model ready to go for the service launch. You could probably eat your lunch out of a box based on the train's design too. Virgin is missing a marketing opportunity.
