More progress.

These photos duplicate thise posted on the Sheep Chronicles but appear here by way of an update.

I am starting to add the details and thus bring Mutton to life.

The lamps and running in board are made from odds and ends. They are not slavish copies of L&SWR prototype but serve to provide an impression.

Looking great, love the weathering on the stock and a real atmosphere. Have you considered the use of different couplings as in the photos they do stand out. If you're not planning too much shunting 3 links look great and are not too bad with a bit of practice.

Thanks for your kind words.

The tension locks are the preferred option. There will a fair amount of shunting and with my eyes, three links are a deffo non starter. Setting that to one side, access to Mutton is quite restricted anyway.

I must say Hembourne is looking jolly good.

Mutton is starting to come together now. Still adding details with the latest being a telegraph pole. This was knocked up from small wooden dowel and a bit of strip wood. The steps are bent up from some etched grills.

What has resulted is a hoped for representation of a neglected pole, quietly going about its business.

The Radial is a gratuitous image of what is typical motive power for the Lamb Regis branch.

Looking to continue the steady progress towards Muttons first exhibition on the w0th January......

A couple more images taken from the Sheep Chronicles thread which brings things right up to date.

Mutton has its first exhibition next Saturday at the Small Cardiff Show.

Though still lacking a few details I think it is presentable enough in its current form and the emphasis turns now to weathering stock and finishing the dispkay side of things.

Mutton made it's first appearance at the exhibition yesterday and things went well.

A lovely day with some nice comments from visitors and fellow exhibitors alike.

A couple of photos taken at the show are below. ( Repeated from main thread)

I have a few jobs to attend to, nothing too demanding.

Mutton is next out in April so I have a bit of time.

Mutton will be there Stubbers as will yours, I'm sure.

From my point of view a few things to attend to before then.

Also got to fettle Sheep Lane which is also being exhibited in April.

A few more photos of Mutton.

The Radials are Hornby, suitably weathered using Humbrol powders.

Coach is a Hornby Maunsell. The underframe was dusted with matt dark earth acrylic the powders added over that.

Have Lord & Butler not head-hunted you yet?

Nope Stubbers. I am still more than capable of bu@@ering things up. Best not let me loose on other peoples toys.

Besides they have Adrian 'Dirty Boy' who does know what he is doing....unlike me.

The radial used on Mutton are all Hornby jobs.

Here is 30583 with added bars on the rear windows. 583 was the only one of the last three Radials so equipped. This may be as a result of it having larger windows than 582 and 584.

Also shown is one of the photos used as a reference for the weathering applied to 583. Taken by R C Riley on one of his visits to Lamb Regis.

Still to add coal, crew and other bits and bobs.

Thanks CK.

I shall sort out the relevant posts in due course.

I have the third Radial to do along with further wagons and coaches.

Passenger services are normally in the hands of a Maunsell brake and Norman provides this 'worms eye view'

A revision is underway with regard to the signal cabin at Mutton. The original was the Bachmann/Kernow Boscarne Junction box. Lovely model but at the back of my mind was the thought that it was a little big. I always saw it as a signal box reduced to a ground frame following the removal of signaling in the 1930's.

I have therefore been dabbling with an adapted Bachmann ground frame which has been cut down. This is the result. Still a work in progress, the windows are popped into position and the box placed in situ. So still a fair bit to do but I think it is starting to look the part.

Boscastle Junction...

That's a nice idea for a might-have-been layout.
