RailWest
Most references to Spetisbury in various publications state that it was reduced to an unstaffed halt on 13-August-1934. However Oakley’s “Discover Dorset Railway Stations” (Dovecote Press pub 2001) states that it was unstaffed from that date, but downgraded to halt status on 1-January-1939. Kidner’s “Southern Railway Halts Survey & Gazetteer” (Oakwood No 156 pub 1985) also states that it was reduced to a halt in 1939, but makes no mention of de-staffing. Lucking’s “Railways of Dorset” (RCTS pub 1968) is rather more vague and says simply that it became an unstaffed halt ‘about 1940’. Anyone have any more information please?
