RMweb Gold The Stationmaster Posted May 8, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 8, 2017 Yes, Lightmoor Press have reprinted the Ben Ashworth album titled 'BR Steam In Dean' which shows exactly what it says on the cover. Edited by Ian Pope it is a superb collection of Ben Ashworth's pictures taken in the Forest and immediate vicinity in the steam era (although a Brush Type 4 appears in the edge of one pic at Bullo Pill). Mainly b&w pics, and excellently reproduced there are also colour views on and inside the front and back covers - an absolute bargain for £10. 1

Without doubt, one of the best books I have ever purchased. Overlook this book, and you will one day regret it . . Brian R
Blackthorn
Does anyone know where the book is available? Or is it only from the publisher? I'll be back in England in a couple of weeks and we're staying in Gloucestershire for most of our stay. It sounds like a book I should buy...along with many others, I'll probably have an excess baggage charge coming back!

Could try the publisher directly in Witney... http://lightmoor.co.uk/books/br-steam-in-dean/L9068 Like others have said this is £10 well spent with lovely photography by BA and IP's captions helping to bring the images alive. I bought my copy in 2000 at a bookshop in Gloucester and it remains one of the most read books I own, One word......Whimsey! With those evocative Berry Wiggins tank wagons which will be always associated with the Forest during this period...
RMweb Gold Captain Kernow Posted May 18, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 18, 2017 I am sure that Simon will have it at The Titfield Thunderbolt bookshop in Bath - http://www.titfield.co.uk/ - and could probably post it back to Canada for you, if you so wished. Having said that, the bookshop is definitely well worth a visit, but make sure your wallet is aware that you are going.
w124bob
Well I can highly recommend this book, packed full of little scenes worth modelling. Interesting that the Stationmaster references the picture with the Brush type 4 in the background since the 9f in the foreground on a WR weedkiller train was a surprise. Also by pure chance the only 45xx pictured in the Dean is one I'm currently working on, 4564!
