Hi,I have recently seen a slide for sale on ebay of a DMU at Dinting on the 'Woodhead Wanderer' railtour (5/1/1980). Was wondering if anyone had details of the route etc.? Jim

Thanks guys, there was nothing on Six Bells that I could see. I was wondering what the formation was - it looks like two 2-car units in refurbished livery the first one being a Class 108 - would this be correct? What was the other?

Having dug into the photographic archive, details have come, if not flooding, at least trickling back.

The route was Sheffield Midland, Nunnery Junction, (reverse), Dinting, (stop off at the Dinting Railway Centre), Manchester Piccadilly.

I think we came back via the Hope Valley, but wouldn't guarentee it.

Some photo's from the day, apologies for the quality, but it was very much month at f8 weather.

Hi Martin, that’s great - is this something you can please share, if not too much trouble? I’m sure this would be of interest to the group. Cheers, Jim

So was I. Where any pictures I might have taken of the trip (probably mainly took pics of the buses when we got to Manchester) are is an interesting question.

Is it really 40 years ago.

I helped organise this tour back in the day of the South Yorkshire Transport Society and have a few pictures taken on the day.

Regrettably old age precludes remembering too much of the details, is there anything on Six Bells?

Mike.

Hi Mike - as you were involved with the SYTS, have you information regarding this rail tour please ?

There is no information on six bells junction though on the day in question, steam shuttles worked from Paddington to Old Oak Common for the depot open day so the two events are no doubt connected!

Holmesfeldian, apologies for the delay in replying, I had to dig out my society magazines to look into this.

The tour was cancelled due to lack of support, hence the absence of content on Sixbells, so you've done well to have a ticket for it, our contact in Sheaf House was obviously efficient!

I had no recollection of anything about this railtour, so that is the reason why. We were a small society, and tours, both rail and bus, were initiated on a bit of a "run it up the flagpole and see who salutes it" style, announcements being made in the magazine and by word of mouth, and we had a fair rate of attrition.

Mike.
