Z gauge with Templot

Recommended Posts

Hello,

My name is Tim, I am a Z gauge modeller from Europe and would like to use templot to handlaid Z gauge track. I am currently interested in changing the sleeper spacing for a straight track. So far my experiments were unsuccessful. I know that sleeper spacing between the edges (not the centers) should be 1.4 millimeters (scale value) whereas sleepers are 1 mm in width. When I enter values in inches, they are scaled to smaller values. Could someone help me to enter correct values in inches so that I could get the desired values? I also don't understand which rail length should I enter if I am using long rails similar to flex track only without sleepers? In fact I don't need the rail marks, but when I enter the real length, I also need to specify distance between each sleeper, which takes time. Any advice would be highly appreciated.  Thank you.

Hi Tim,

Templot expects you to enter the prototype (full-size real railway) timber spacings in inches.

You can over-ride that and enter the model sizes in mm by prefixing your data with a letter s. So for example to enter a model spacing of 2.4mm you should enter s2.4

(Spacings are measured centre-to-centre. From your figures your centre-to-centre spacing is 2.4mm)

If using flex track or CWR instead of prototype jointed track, set the rail length equal to the sleeper spacing, set the spacing from the rail end to the first sleeper equal to half of that, and all other spacings to zero (0). Turn off the showing of rail joints.

If you ask on the Templot Club forum we can discuss all this in greater detail: http://85a.co.uk/forum/

regards,

Martin.
