In the early years 1995 to 2000 Were all the class 20s modified with the light clusters and long range fuel tanks

I have the Bachman 20904 which does feature the above.

As I now have a pair of Modified DRS Class 20 with light clusters and long range tanks not sure what to do with 20904

According to my rather sparse notes the 20 3xx had modified cabs with revised cab windows plus Wipac lights both ends and long range tanks, later some had high level HE lights fitted at both ends. 20 902 and 905 had standard cabs with a lower level HE light as did nose end plus long range tanks. 20 904 and 906 had standard cabs with a low level HE light as did nose end but no long range tanks. Best to search for dated photos on the web to be sure.

Hope this helps.

20904 never had modified light clusters or long range fuel tanks (certainly not on the sole bar anyway) and remained blue star fitted. All the 20/3's had long range tanks. modified light clusters & DRS standard multiple working (no blue star). Therefore the 20/9's could only work in multiple with other blue star fitted loco's (20/9's & most of the DRS 37's fleet) & 20/3's could only work with loco's with similar multiple working, mainly all the DRS 37's with the additional multi socket on the nose end. Note that 20301-305 initially only had MU on the nose ends.

In the link bellow of 37612 you can see the orange DRS multi socket just to the right of the left had light cluster, the standard blue start cable can also be seen just above the right hand buffer, at this point 37612 having both sets of multiple working equipment.

Hope that helps,

Al.

There was and still is a few DRS 37s that have dual multi working. The 20/9s never had proper extended range tanks. The ones that had the tanks on the running plate were not in the fuel system but were storage tanks that had to be piped and pumped into the normal frame tanks

  • 4 months later...

I spoke to Dennis Lovett on the Bachmann stand at the Folkestone Model Railway Show today. He told me that the "package" for the class 20/3's had recently gone, or was about to go to China. Design work all done then and tooling to commence soon.

Realistically then we'll see these in say 12 - 18 months?
