Since we have a similar thread on the Hornby forum, I thought it might be a good idea to start one on the Bachmann models.

My vote would have to go to the City Class. Something that modellers have been hoping to have produced for decades.

I am currently sat staring at an MLV, an EPB and a 205 - can't make my mind up which is the best, I don't have a 4CEP but that too looks very nice.

For a company that didn't do electrics (ok the 205 isn't strictly an electric) they all look very very nice models.

I'm going for the LMS 3f with tender as found in the midland marvel set. Superb cab detailing and the model gives exactly the right feel of the prototype.

I'm going to say the model rail USA tank, the wealth of detail is just stunning and the motion is just simply exquisite. My chosen model for Bachmann's best.

Edit: Another that I would put fairly high up within the ranks is the 4mt tank.

Guest Midland Mole

The Midland Compound in all liveried must come very much near the top. Detail, running/haulage capacity, paintwork and lining on this model are superb. A vastly underated locomotive from Bachmann.

Damn, beat me to it! :D

My vote will have to go to the G2A Super D models then.

Alex

Edit: And for diesel, without a doubt the Wickham Trolley because it is a marvel in OO gauge RTR. :)

I'm torn between the 3F, 4F and Compound, but then anything of Midland origin will always get my attention. All wonderfully executed models of less glamorous and in the case of the 0-6-0s, unassuming and unremarkable prototypes which are ideally suited for the constraints of the average model railway.

Putting personal preferences aside though, for outright 'wow' factor, the 9F is pretty hard to beat in pretty much every regard, and for diseasils I'd have to go with the Ivatt Twins.

As I haven't seen or own the full range of Bachmann products, all I can say is those that I have, and that includes all the LMS and BR standard steam loco classes ( in 00 gauge), I'm perfectly happy with. :sungum:

Bachmann serve the Midland Region quite well - the 1F, Compound and G2a spring to mind for me. The Standard 5MT scrubs up pretty well with work, but can be let-down with poor running (not something I've encountered with them though)

...The Standard 5MT scrubs up pretty well with work, but can be let-down with poor running (not something I've encountered with them though)...

Agreed, I've three of them, and whilst I've only managed a re-number on two and addition of the "bits" on all three, they all run just luvverly, I was even lucky enough to get one the now renumbered 73080 'Merlin' complete with an excellent sound decoder equipped for a song on eBay  :)

Since no-one as yet as provided pictures, here are the 5MT examples, together with my other favorite in this topic the Bachmann 9F which I think is stunning.

NOTE: Before there are the obvious comments, I KNOW the tender is wrong for the renumbers, but rule #1 and I WANT the roster of BR/SR named 5MTs, this was an easy way to build the class - I've one other (73081 'EXCALIBUR', correct tender) but it's a DJH custom build - only a FEW more to go  ;)

Apply rule one - it's your railway and there were un-treated tender changes - as far as your concerned ;)

The 5MT's are the most numerous Bachmann Class that have come across my workbench, the only one that's hit double digits. I'm working my way through the 'Standard Arthur's', but they are time consuming.

I recently acquired a L&YR 2-4-2, fantastic looking loco - though the coupling rods look extremely Hornby....

Has anyone mentioned the Wainwright C class and Ivatt C1 atlantic yet? Both are miniature works of art, IMO.

Cheers

The Class 85 electric.

Not just because they got it absolutely spot on but because I think they helped start the ball rolling on the new generation of AC locos thats now led to us getting a new class 90, class 92, class 71/74 and now a new class 87,  no doubt about that.  It was close as the Heljan class 86 could have put the kybosh on further interest.
