Keith Kemp
My Mainline Warship has a split gear on the main drive wheel. I am aware that new brass gears are available but how do I remove one of the existing wheels in order to install the new gear. Any advice greatly appreciated. Thanks Keith
RMweb Gold Downendian Posted July 4, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 4, 2017 (edited) Hi Keith You need a wheel puller and pusher, Fohrmann are excellent but pricey, and will be well beyond the cost of the loco, I just wanted them in my toolbox to think of one day EM gauging stuff. You may be able to borrow a set? See http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/61530-downendian-details/?p=2587247 Edit PS welcome to the forum. 34theletterbetweenB&D
Or you do it by the Mr Cheapo method of cutting a slot in a piece of steel plate, just wide enough to take the axle. supporting this on two wood blocks and pushing the axle out of the wheel seat, and then out of the gear, using a small hammer on a blunted iron nail as a punch. (The punch should be softer than the steel axle to avoid damage to the axle end.) And reverse for reassembly.

RAF96
Pop down your local bike shop and have a look at their chain link puller/pushers. They may need a bit of fettling to get the fork thin enough to fit around your motor shaft or axle and the motor housing or axle box/chassis, etc.
