[luke the train spotter]

Hi, I'm thinking of building a oo gauge modern image micro layout. I would like to make up a network rail engineers train but on a minimum budget. I plan to buy some cheap old coaches on ebay and repaint them into network rail yellow. This is all good and well until you look under the coaches and see all that fancy equipment. I would be really grateful for any help or guidance on what it is or what it does or how I could scratch build it. Thanks.

This site has a lot of infomation and photos,  Googling the numbers of coachs you are interested should find more photos.

I made a short rake of NR test coaches (details of the build here http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/76254-laoson-valley-1990s-to-modern-day-tmd-oil-terminal-p-way-yard/?p=2207460)

 

As for under floor equipment, I just searched for side on photos of the real thing and built representations of the equipment in plasticard and styrene sections/bars.

Plenty of photos can be found at Departmentals.com.

 

Some are support vehicles and apart from a coat of yellow paint aren't much different to standard BR coaches.

The structure gauging train is a simple one to model, 2 old Hornby/airfix MK2s, fill the windows on one of them with putty and remove the innner gangway connections and paint yellow!
