RMweb Gold Red Fox Posted July 13, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 13, 2017 I want to strip the paint off a Hornby coach so I can respray it but can't get the window glazing out without damaging it. If I use Phoenix Superstrip on the body with the glazing still in place is the glazing likely to get damaged?
jamespetts
The Phoenix website suggests that the answer is yes.
DavidR
It will turn it cloudy/misty. Could you not remove the glazing (although damaging it) and replace it later with new, from someone like Peter's Spares?
stewartingram
I got some from Eilien's Emporium that is ok. I had a Corgi/OOC bus which I had repainted, and got some paint on the windows. That stripper, used sparingly & as per the instructions, lifted it off cleanly. I used a coffee stirrer, cut to an angle on the end, to move it. RMweb Gold Red Fox Posted July 23, 2018 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted July 23, 2018 I wanted to respray a Hornby VEP (and make it look like a VEP!) which have very fragile window frames, so not only do you damage the glazing you damage the body while taking everything apart. I tried masking the windows but it didn't give a very good result. I've seen an idea on Twitter that putting the VEP bodies in the freezer overnight helps weaken the glue so when the time comes to paint the VEP I'll give that a go instead of taking the risk with Superstrip.
