RMweb Gold Stubby47 Posted July 29, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 29, 2017 (edited) Despite living in Cornwall for the past 30+years, and working for ECC for the first 7½ of them, I've never built a layout based on the China Clay industry. It's a simple idea, a low level curve entering the scenic area under a road bridge and leaving under a rail bridge. The rail bridge is a single siding to a clay dries. But I am going to need quite a few clay hoods... Edited August 26, 2019 by Stubby47 6
RMweb Gold Stubby47 Posted July 30, 2017 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted July 30, 2017 Slight amendment to plan - left hand entrance is now via a tunnel, right had exit via the road bridge, with the rail bridge in front. Might make the whole clay area abandoned, with no tracks left other than embedded in the concrete. You might be asking, how does this fit with the requirements for 'Operationally interesting' - well, have I ever been known to do things conventionally ?

RMweb Gold Captain Kernow Posted August 8, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 8, 2017 (edited) Have you thought of making one of the two running lines narrow gauge, O Stubbersley? Edited August 8, 2017 by Captain Kernow
RMweb Gold Stubby47 Posted August 8, 2017 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted August 8, 2017 Have you thought of making one of the two running lines narrow gauge, O Stubbersley? No, no narrow gauge for this layout. There might not be any locos, either...

DonB
Digitally operated and controlled? Who says operations have to be performed by pushing buttons and twiddling knobs? RMweb Gold SHMD Posted August 9, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 9, 2017 I like this layout for a small cameo as I've had the same idea but for a different industry and in a different plane!!! (Stubby has already given enough clues as to how this layout is going to be propelled.) Kev.

RMweb Gold Graham_Muz Posted August 9, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 9, 2017 There might not be any locos, either... If you lay the circle on a slope the trains without locos will just go round and round due to gravity wont they....
RMweb Gold Captain Kernow Posted August 10, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 10, 2017 If you lay the circle on a slope the trains without locos will just go round and round due to gravity wont they.... Some kind of gimbal to move baseboard around thus give the rolling stock the ability to respond to gravity?
RMweb Gold Stubby47 Posted August 10, 2017 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted August 10, 2017 Some kind of gimbal to move baseboard around thus give the rolling stock the ability to respond to gravity? Far too complex - even for me. Think very tight coach washing plant...
peter220950
And if you dip the rollers in white emulsion first you can weather the clay hoods as you go. Peter
RMweb Gold Stubby47 Posted August 24, 2017 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted August 24, 2017 Change of propulsion plan... Instead of the rollers, I'll be using a 'Spring'. Those with long memories might recall the Matchbox Motorised Motorway I have today received two of the Motorway 4.25m springs, one of which can be used on this layout. A further benefit of this method is that many wagons can be used to link to the spring, so providing a smoother and shared transfer of power to the train.
Graham456
At first I was thinking fast spinning paint rollers set up like a car wash to flick the clays around but now a spring has sprung So it's going to be like the pin ball wizard. ! Behind the scene the big spring is going to ping the wagons around.....can't see how there going to get into the dry though?
