Hornby: Sit back and catch up....

Just looked at the latest Hornby email newsletter.

The "Top Picks of the Month" section deals with the recently released Railroad Class 20, Class 31 and "Class 37" TTS locos accompanied by a teasing paragraph - "This month saw the arrival of several new RailRoad locomotives fitted with TTS Sound - look out this Autumn for a further development to our TTS technology..."

Now, Autumn is generally held to be between 1st September and 30th November (unless you're an astronomer, where the dates are slightly different...). So wht are Hornby going to announce?

Perhaps some of these

  • TTS for the Sentinel and Peckett locomotives
  • Extra retro-fitting TTS sound modules
  • Synchronised exhaust beats for steam locos
  • More CVs to adjust
  • User updatable sound projects

Whaddya think?

The recent class 20 and 31 both had better speakers, sounded better and had much better weight than the first TTS models like the 37 and the 47. Autumn sees the release of the standalone decoders - hopefully this isn't what they mean.

Next TTS model on my radar is the 08.

I wouldn't have thought so, the retrofit decoders have been signalled for a few months now. They're either adding new modules to that list or...

Could it be TTS in rolling stock rather than locomotives ? A bit like soundtraxx do already with their freight car.

Carriages with the the sound of the rail joints, passengers embarking, door slams, station announcements ?

The Merchant navy TTS data sheet came with settings for lights ...

On a MN working lights might be fun.

All the TTS locos steam and diesel leaflets come with settings for lights if installed and also a statement that this or that loco does not have lights.

We're MNs one of the few steamers to have electric lights, modern heritage locos excepted.

Yes MNs (and WC/BoBs) had permanent fitted light boxes below the lamp irons - which were used to hold indicator discs(though how useful the lights were is a different question), not sure if they were electric or oil, but permanent they were. Edited by adb968008

They were electric, and the locos also featured lit gauges in the cabs, with a rather groovy modern blue backlight.  B1s and maybe some other late LNER locos also had electric lights.

:offtopic: In one of his excellent books, the ex-fireman Terry Essery describes his experiences with B1s. In his view, the best feature of the electric lighting was the gauge lighting. (Without it, the crew only had an oil lamp and the light from the fire at night.) He loved the Black 5s but thought that the Standard 5s were even better. His one criticism of them was that they didn’t have electric lighting.
