peterstgermain
I've recently laid my hands on a well made kit of a LNER N8 locomotive. Sadly, it has no guard irons which makes look rather odd. I've tried to find suppliers, on the net, to no avail. Can any one help me please? Thanks in anticipation peter
brossard
Peter, you will probably need to make these. If you have a photo, or, better still, a drawing you can judge the size and shape. I've scaled parts from photos by measuring common dimensions on the photo and model and calculating the scaling factor. I'd get a piece of brass strip of the correct width, cut off a length and solder that to the strip. Then using files and perhaps a Dremel you can carve the guard iron shape. By laminating the strip you get two exactly the same. Fixing it to the loco may require scraping off paint on the frames and soldering. You might get away with using CA but it won't be a strong joint. John
RMweb Premium Siberian Snooper Posted August 8, 2017 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 8, 2017 Some guard irons are made from angle, Eileens Emporium do some fine brass angle.
