I'm seeing a trend here...

Diesels in the most southwesterly county, miles from where you live.

Diesel in the most northerly country, miles from where you live.

Looks good so far...

OK, you made me look.

Inverness is 671 miles from St Blazey, 11+ hours to drive, 13+ hours by train and 3 hours flying.

We live roughly half way between, give or take.

So the next layout will either be Ireland, or Holland... ?

Lots of random stuff going through my head at the moment one of which is layout presentation and signage. The Diesels in the Duchy signage is in the form of a red backed nameplate style. I'm thinking of something similar but perhaps in the style of the Scotrail Inverness sign with Highland stag, it was attached to the side of the works facing the platforms.

Does anybody know when this sign went up?

I know the Highland Stag is very close to my period but have not determined the year it first appeared.

I've had a bit of fiddle around this morning, Mark's now sent me separate plans showing the track and buildings individually.

So the first thing I've done is print out and trim the track plan sheets and laid them out.

The board size is currently around 5 feet long by 20 inches wide.

Having just renumbered 6 old Lima 27's for use on my West Highland layout set in the mid '80's just be aware that BR in their wisdom decided to alter the cab windows during their life-span converting many of the later build ones from drop-lights to sliding windows. It makes picking a suitable identity a mine-field, esp given that most (not all) Lima 27's have droplights!

As ever the key is going to be as many photos as possible of a given prototype at the correct time.

I was getting tangled up with cab doors the other night before I realised that said loco had door windows one end and a blanked off one at the other.

It makes it all the more interesting for me.
