A lifetime's work in pictures

Recommended Posts

Well, with not that long to go now on this Planet, or any other come to that matter, I thought I might start a new pictorial thread on past, not so past and present models built over something like  47 years.

I shall only be scratching the surface here where a good deal of what  me and my ego would like to share with you was never recorded and, of course, never filed back in the 'good ol' days ' before we got bogged down with computers and stuff.

So, I apologise if you find this thread something of a long haul  but not as long as ploughing through hundreds of pictures burried somewhere in my files !

Here then, and not for any particular reason, I would like to kick off  with a selection of church pics and, as one will notice, built out of Wills stone sheets that, for me, took over where fire cement ended way back in the 70's/80's.

Cheers

Allan

Right, Hospital all day yesterday so today let's see if I can straighten this thread out after all the non appearing pictures !

Here we go.

Not quite sure what's happened there Allan, but the images aren't showing.

Re above.

Sorted things out now, guys, I hope !

So, to continue with a little Narrow Gauge, namely, Ironstone Bank - and something Colorado lurking in the garage.....

Cheers

Oh dear, Chris.

They're showing here.I'm copy pasting them from Your Model Railway club.

So, before I continue, is anybody else experiencing this ?

Cheers

Allan

Hi Allan,

Yes, I've got links to jpg's, but nothing appears when I click on them. Just a white square with a circle going round.

OK, guys. Sorry about that.

So it looks like I shall have to go the long way round, start the thread again and take the pictures straight from my files.

As a test. can anybody see this ?

Cheers.

So, having sorted that out, here's a little sea air for you. Polppero Harbour.

This was rather tongue in cheek and worked up from a cheap print we bought while on holiday down there. Polppero has no railway but was about to get one when a chap bought it and built a layout around it !

Cheers.

Allan.

Allan,

What a brilliant idea!

You have spoken about your current state of health on another thread, so this has to be viewed with a certain sadness but that is lightened by your unceasing cheerfulness and the sheer beauty of your work.

You are a craftsman, Sir and, perhaps more importantly, one who shares his work with us in a very human and humorous way.

Thank you,

Glover

Allan,

I have followed your previous thread "Anything you can do....". Fantastic work. I have been completely inspired by your incredible model and wish one day to be able to create such beautiful buildings half as well.

Thank you Sir for sharing such a wonderful skill with us. I look forward to seeing more.

Wishing you all the best.

Matt

Very nice words indeed, Glover. Thank you.

So, for that, more piccies  - Ironstone Bank, a dabble in Welsh narrow gauge and something inspired by a rocky place somewhere high up in the Colorado Rockies - or, as in this case, tissue paper mountains.

Cheers.

Allan.

I like the Colorado mine and sawmill as a contrast with the English and Welsh work which is so quintessentially 'Allan Downes'.

Thanks for sharing these images!

Thanks for putting this thread together Allan.  Your work continues to be an inspiration and has been an inspiration since the first articles I saw in Railway Modeller during the 70s.  More please.

Apart from that windmill. :tomato:
