An interesting magazine this month, with a new look....new hand on the tiller as well...

I have only had a quick look through, I was attracted by the "Branch Line" theme of this issue....

Some good "Hands On" articles.

I too never knew about the Loco Lift Sides not being plastic! ;)

The reviews are good, if few in number...

One new featur is "News Real".

"What's happening on Britain's railways".

Now then....what is this?

'Merchant Return'

WCR's rebuiilt MN 35018 British India Line in plain black, BR early crest on the wrong way around (facing backwards!).

Number on cab side 99818. That I can understand....most (if not all?) Main Line registered steam locos have TOPS numbers. Usually only inside the cab though!

OK so far?

But the nameplate is Rebuilt style "Bodmin" with coat of arms above! Yes, a West Country (WC) NOT an MN!

So, is West Coast running BIL in under cover, like certain Car Manufacturers disguised proving prototypes?? ;)

Intersting that the Yellow End requirement is no longer in force (Class 345 Crossrail EMUS are Yellow less!).

I see that Chris's page is now  inside the mag....and "Backscene" is now a joint effort of various contributors....

It all looks good so far!

Yes, we've changed a lot, but not the hand on the tiller (as far as I'm aware - and he sits opposite me). Can't see the point of spoiling a Bulleid just to avoid a more complex paint job, so I guess that makes me an OSP! (CJL)

Hi Chris...

Sorry! OK....not a new hand on the tiller!    :blush_mini:

Not since 2014 I believe.....the new look must have confused my poor brain cells.... ;)

I would presume that the MN in question will revert to a more appropriate livery once running in is completed....

It may be easier to make adjustments without worrying about a more expensive livery?

A bit like running in a model in undercoat before fnish painting?? ;)

I welcome more of the 'Real railway' news. Especially as the articles are essentially shortened versions of articles in other Bauer Media 'Real railwa mags' and using the same photos so won't take much more resources.

BIL still has its TOPS code on the cabside but strangely it has 35018 chalked onto the smokebox. Rumours are that it will make its tour debut on tomorrow's Fellsman

Edit: 29ths Fellsman is hauled by 48151
