The Manchester to Bury 'Lecky' Line and the Class 504 EMUs

This 172 page A4 sized book follows a similar layout and format to The Decline of British Railways in Bury and Rossendale and focuses on the popular Bury to Manchester commuter line and the much-missed Class 504 EMUs.

The book takes a look at the line, its history, stations, signal boxes, along with a detailed study of the unique and iconic Class 504 EMUs, which operated on the line from 1959 until it was closed to BR services in August 1991. The line now, of course, is part of the Metrolink tram network, but is now much changed from the era when the '504s' were in charge of services.

The book has been produced on a voluntary basis by Simon Thomas and Andrew Coward, on behalf of the Class 504 Preservation Society, who are working on the long term restoration of the sole-surviving Class 504 Bury to Manchester EMU at the East Lancashire Railway. All profits generated by the sales of the book will go directly to the restoration of 504451.

The book is priced at £18.50, inclusive of free postage and packing (if ordering from outside of the UK, please contact us for a postal quotation - free postage offer does not apply to overseas orders).

If you wish to order a copy of the new book, please pay online using Paypal by visiting http://www.buryrossendalerails.com, or it can be ordered by post via the Class 504 Preservation Society Website (http://www.class504preservationsociety.co.uk).

Hopefully this book will raise some vital funds for the Class 504 Preservation Society in their efforts to restore 504451 back to its former glory.

Regards
