Slips in Templot - can now be created automatically.

A new version 215a of Templot is now available. Your copy of Templot should update automatically if you restart it and follow the instructions. If you have any problems with that, follow the download links on the Templot web site.

 

Several users have said that creating slips is too difficult, so I have now automated the process. Slips can now be created with a couple of clicks. They can be of any angle, and in straight or curved track, or even on a transition curve:

 

 

 

There are several other new features in this update. For those who like to use historic OS maps and aerial images as a background design guide, Templot can now fetch them from the internet for you, and automatically scale (resize) them to your model scale.

That's great news - could never get slips to work in Templot before (and yes, I know I could have asked for help on the forum) but my interest was purely as a track building exercise as my layout has no need of one- I'll give it a go, simply because I like building track....

Don't hold your breath. There are so many possible permutations in a tandem that it is an order of magnitude more difficult to automate than a slip. But it might to possible to do parts of the process. But not for a while.

Just plugged it into Templot and saw it drawn before my very eyes.

 

I only need one.

 

There are already three failed attempts lying around the shed.

 

Might need a PAD for the DJLC, so may come in useful yet.

 I tried to download the update and it failed because it said templot.exe already exists. I tried to delete the file manually and it said I needed administrator permission so I went into Control Panel and checked my status and I am the administrator. So now I am stuck. Templot won't run and I can't download the update. I have tried a complete re-installation but hit the same problem. So what am I doing wrong? (running Windows 10 by the way).

Try right-clicking on the downloaded file, and then Run As Administrator.

I don't have administrator rights over the Templot application or the Icon. I have tried uninstalling. I'll try doing a system restore and see where that gets me.

Thanks for letting me know. To be honest, I didn't have the faintest idea what to suggest. By mid-day today there had been 262 downloads and only 2 problems that I know of, although a few have had problems with their anti-virus settings. Anti-virus isn't needed with Windows10, it comes with Windows Defender which works well -- and is perfectly happy with Templot.

Click the hollow triangle symbol on the mouse action panel to toggle between F7 and F8:

 

 

That isn't a new feature, it has always been there.

 

Similarly for several other mouse actions, clicking that symbol toggles two related mouse actions, e.g.

 

in F6, toggle between 1st and 2nd transition radius,

 

for a transition, toggle between the start and zone length adjustments.

 

When not doing such pre-defined swaps, it toggles back to the most recent previous mouse action. So for example when adjusting check rails you could toggle to and fro between the length of the check rail and the length of the flared end. The BACKSPACE key does the same thing.

 

I removed the separate F8 button so that I could find space to include an indication of join snapping in the caption on the F7 button. The toolbar can't be made any longer or it won't fit on 1024 screens.

 

Be aware that F7 snapping is now on by default if you use that button, but off by default if you press the F7 key to start it. Hold down the SHIFT key to reverse that in each case. More info, see:
