Freight Connection
Hi to all... I would like to renumber an early Farish 47. 47 487 has yellow on the doors as per the original, the only examples I can find have the body colours on the doors. Did any other 47s from that time carry the same door colours as the pic below. A named loco would be even better, otherwise a small paint job will be needed on the doors. Looked through a lot of galleries last night without success. Thanks in advance Steve
Pete the Elaner
I don't know the answer, but I believe 487 was the first 47 to carry InterCity. Who knows when the decision was taken to extend the stripe onto the doors? It may have been a decision taken immediately after completing this one. mjkerr
Well spotted with the yellow completely aligned across the cab, sadly the only Class 47 loco to carry this version Painted into this livery about May 1984 http://www.class47.co.uk/c47_liveries.php?s_liv=12 Note that 47701, although in ScotRail livery, briefly had the yellow extended below the cab doors even though the cab doors retained the stripes
Freight Connection
Thank you both for the help... Was just going to pick a name and number last night until I noticed the doors. Will touch up the doors and choose a name.. Regards - Steve
mjkerr
Will touch up the doors and choose a name..You will also need to remove / paint over / repaint the bodyside cantrail stripe Then finally check for a black headcode box
Freight Connection
You will also need to remove / paint over / repaint the bodyside cantrail stripe Then finally check for a black headcode box Good points, well presented. Only noticed the cantrail difference last night as I removed the numbers. Regards - Steve
PoshPaws
Nope, sorry, like so many of Stratford's repaints 487 was unique. Watch out for the headcode box area too, on standard InterCity livery examples the grey / yellow border was straight across the middle of the box. GordonC
but there was plenty of examples with the full black headcode box too - not sure if they were old oak common or western region ones though 47612, 47609, 47549 along with loads around
PM47079
Pretty sure they were old oak depot repaints. 47471 also had a slightly different version of intercity with full yellow cab sides with black numbers
Raffles
One thing to watch (and it is a subtle thing) is that the OC repaints had did not have black headcodes and 47487 did. OC use the Executive Dark Grey in the headcodes.
stewartingram
47-487 on a Ceiba-Geigy/Cambridge Railway Circle private charter at Cambridge on 22-6-85. Fresh out of the paintshops, entering Cambridge. Note the very small cabside numbers. I believe this was the 1st repaint into these colours, and was specially chosen by the CRC for the tour, on which I was a steward. Stewart
mjkerr
I believe this was the 1st repaint into these coloursSadly not, 87012, 09 December 1984, along with a Class 86 (can't find it just now)
