Hi,

Does anybody know if the current R3406 body would fit on the chassis of an R52S which has synchrosmoke?

TIA

Shaun

Not without a lot of work - the current one dates from the 1978 'new' Jinty which fitted a completely different chassis - for one thing the motor was mounted the opposite way round to allow the cab interior to be modelled.

The later chassis drives the leading axle rather than the centre one but AFAIK the fixing points are the same. The problem lies in the later body having cab detail in the place occupied by the magnet on the earlier version.

The later body clip fits to the chassis whilst the earlier one was screw fitted, initially through the chimney and later above the forward footplate, so not common fixing points

On reflection you are correct. There is an official modification for fitting the smoke unit to the earlier body giving the position for the hole in the 'skirt'.

The chassis are much the same as regards dimensions (the later one still has the incorrect wheelbase of the first versions of R52).
