Hi Martin/ All,

Just a quick question. I have recently purchased a new laptop with a 4K High definition screen. I re-installed Templot with no problems, other than

Templot now looks tiny with the exception of the track itself!

Is there something simple I am missing with regards to how Templot displays with my 3840 x 2160 resolution?

Many thanks in advance.

Gaz.

Hi Gaz,

Experimental program sizing in version 215a -- there is now a small vertical slider hiding at bottom-right corner of the trackpad:

2_201440_230000000.png

This replaces the previous dpi-aware functions which I introduced a couple of versions ago, to provide more control for individual systems and user preferences.

Adjust for the most comfortable use on tablets, widescreen monitors, and anything in between. This has no effect on track design, it controls the size of dialogs, text and buttons, etc.

Click the ? for more info.

Hi Martin,

Just back from my after dinner stroll and in to your reply. Did as you suggested and it works a treat! Now fully legible.

This hobby and my layout designing would be so much poorer if it wasn't for true Gentlemen such as yourself!

Thanks again!

Gaz.

Hi Gaz,

Glad it worked ok. smile.gif

In the latest Windows 10 Creators Edition, Microsoft have made a couple of changes which are causing much grief to users of hi-resolution displays.

1. In a so-called improvement to the dpi-aware scaling, anything which appears in the Segoe UI font (i.e. almost everything in Windows own dialogs, Windows Explorer etc., and in application title bars and menus) is now looking small, blocky and gritty and hard on the eyes. For some reason this applies only to the Segoe UI font -- other fonts display nicely as before.

2. But the catch is that they have also removed the option to change the font and font sizes for such items which used to be available from the Advanced Display Settings in previous versions of Windows 10.

For Templot, this means that although the program itself is not affected, the menus and window titles (over which Templot has no control) were looking unpleasant and hard for me to read:

This had been driving me nuts since my Windows 10 system updated itself to the Creators Edition. If you are not using a hi-res display it may not look so bad.

But I then found Winaero Tweaker (free) from Sergey Tkachenko which makes it very easy to change such things (and a lot more) via the Windows registry. Sergey is also author of the editor for the formatted text blocks used on the Templot sketchboard.

 Download from:

So my screens are now back to how they were before, and I'm happy:

p.s. it will also install the classic version of Paint for you if you want it.

Hi Martin,

I've downloaded the program, but not being a programming genius like yourself, how would I go about changing the font and size? Any help much appreciated!

Gaz.

Hi Gaz,

1. click the item you want to change. It's best to do only one at a time.

2. set the size of the menu items. This is the spacing between each line in the menus. Obviously if you will be increasing the font size the lines will need more space. I'm currently using the sizes shown for a widescreen monitor at 120dpi, adjust by trial and error for the best results on your screen. On a smaller laptop screen you may want to set something larger than this.

3. click the button to choose the font and size. I'm currently using Yu Gothic UI Semibold which is a Japanese font which I find very clear and easy to read. You can see it in the menu bar on that screenshot.

4. click the button to apply these changes to the Windows registry.

However, you won't actually see the changes until you log out and restart Windows. Which makes trial and error a bit tedious, but gets there in the end.

regards,

Martin.

Hi Martin,

That makes perfect sense, I was a bit wary of just diving in given the fact that it's a new laptop, but all these changes are easily reversible.

Thanks yet again and sorry for wasting your time.

Gaz.
