I find it very wrong that to update from 7 gold to 9 gold will cost 427.00 EUR incl. VAT I was about to upgrade from 7 in the next few days but now I am not sure what to do

I agree Richard , software upgrades should not mean having to pay almost as much as you would have to pay if you simply purchased the latest version and had I realised this when first purchasing TC I would'nt have gone the TC way .

Agreed, I've often wondered about TC, but it's far too expensive for consumer software IMO, and charging so much for an upgrade is really poor form. Should either be free or a nominal cost. Even €100 from the old version is too much.

TC is specialist software which has a limited user base  - probably not more than 10,000 or so.  Hence individual licence costs will be relatively high compared to more widely used packages. The company supporting and developing this software needs a steady income in order to continue doing so, and that only comes from new licences and upgrades.

The upgrades from V7 to V8, and now from V8 to V9, have brought major improvements and it isn't realistic to expect the company to make these upgrades available at little or no cost to existing users. Having said that, the cost of each upgrade represented only about 20% of the full licence which I have regarded as very reasonable.

TC does come in 3 different levels depending on how sophisticated you want to make your operation.  The entry-level Bronze version only costs €111, for example.

I've been with TC Gold for some years now and I've just paid my 101 Euros for the upgrade to V9. I've always upgraded each time because I don't fancy a larger cost if I miss an upgrade or two. I reckon I've paid around £1000 over the years - but that's just a guess. Is it worth it? Well I think it is as it gives me a lot of pleasure and keeps the little grey cells active working out the infinite operational possibilities the software provides. But, that's just me - I can understand anyone reluctant to find the funds for a new licence!

Overall I think I might prefer to pay an annual maintenance fee - a subscription if you like - to cover all upgrades going forward. It would be a chance as to whether it would be cheaper or not in the long run, you would never know really, but I reckon I'd take that chance as it would spread the cost (and I'm sure be beneficial for RR£Co's cash flow).

I am thinking about writing to RR&Co to ask if they have considered this as a payment option but before I do I'd be interested if anyone has heard if this has been asked already, and if anyone else on here would consider that if the option was available. Interested to hear your views.

Cheers ... Alan
