Tempfix Rich Papper Posted September 23, 2017 Tempfix Share Posted September 23, 2017 Hello. Hopefully asking this in the right place: can anyone explain to me how to dim DCC lighting on CVs 49-52? I have fitted appropriate resistors, but can't fit any more or anything bigger. Is it possible to change the values of these to dim the lights? I have done a good bit of online searching but broke out in a cold sweat when something said 'hexadecimal conversion'. There must be a way - any help very gratefully received. Thanks in advance. RMweb Gold RFS Posted September 23, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 23, 2017 Which brand and model of decoder are you using? Different makes and models use different CVs.
shibushe
From memory ( mine) This was explained some time back. Set the Lighting CVs to. CV49 - O. Cv50 - 16. CV61- 1. CV 64- 15. Check then that FO controls lighting. Dimming. CV 64 - 2. This is the lowest setting. 18 being the brightest. This programing was for a TCS Decoder, as RFS says may not work. Hattons in this case, but I think they are re-badged DCC Concepts. Thanks Rich

Andrew F
There are a variety of DCC concept based decoders that have varying degrees of options where lighting is concerened and most of these options useless for the average British modeller. I can't remember what options the Hattons one has but I've found none of the concepts based decoders had enough dimming required for realistic modern image stuff. I used the largest rated reisistor in the circuit or maybe a little black paint on the leds (this can give you lights a strange hue though).

Unfortunately despite about 35 minutes of reading I'm still none the wiser! None of them seem to have instructions on how to adjust brighntness. Thanks to everyone looking - I'm sure there'll be something staring me in the face! Rich

Can't fit any bigger ones in unfortunately. Might have a think about a thin layer of paint though. Rich
RMweb Premium Steven B Posted September 24, 2017 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 24, 2017 What size resistor do you currently have fitted? Dimensions and Ohms, current & Voltage rating? I can't believe thatwith resistors available in the Mega-Ohms that you can't find anything suitable. Steven B
