Old Bachmann split box class 45

Has anyone fitted dcc to a non-dcc ready Bachmann class 45? It has a central can motor in a solid metal shassis block, with a very simple pcb on top which I believe to be a +ive / -ive bus. I can see I probably need to remove the pcb and do direct connections, the space is there for a Zimo MX630 which I think is a good match.

I'm just not sure which wires are which as they just vanish into holes in the chassis block. I can figure most out with a multimeter, but just wanted to ask in anyone knows of any traps to watch out for.

The Zimo decoders aren't easy to get hold of here across the pond, and I'd really like to not blow the one I have.

You don't need to remove the simple PCB at all, and the bus tracks conveniently link the pick ups The wires from the pick ups emerge from holes either side of the bogie pivot securing screw hole, and connect to the ends of the PCB bus tracks, the motor supply wires connect to the bus tracks nearer the middle of the PCB, Disconnect the motor supply wires from the PCB bus tracks and solder one each to orange and grey, solder black and red one to each of the bus tracks; and you are done for motor control and ready to test correct install by an address change on program track with no risk to the decoder. The decoder can sit flat above either of the bogie pivots, ample space.

Some models may have lights I believe, but never seen one!
