MGR Hooper!
I think this thread will probably benefit from a better title? Something like "2017 The Great Electric Train Show - 7th & 8th October"??Anyway I look forward to members sharing information and pictures
Kelly
Will be there helping operate a couple of layouts of DEMU members. Should be a good show once again.
RMweb Gold MikeParkin65 Posted October 7, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 7, 2017 Really enjoyed this show - we'll organised and a good venue. Nice to see layouts in good lighting for once rather than the half light of the NEC that will be the next 'local' show for me. Some good layouts - my personal favourite was Leicester Belgrave Road which really captures 'big railway' busyness and worked well. Some layouts seemed to be having 'teething problems' but it was the first few hours of the show when I was there. Good to talk to the people on the Hornby stand. Spent on some spares, a video and some magazines but also have details off traders I will order goods from via the internet. £12 admission on the high side perhaps but then it's £9 just for the British Heritage Museum anyway - to which you also have admission. It's a top quality venue and a worthwhile show in my opinion.

It's a top quality venue and a worthwhile show in my opinion. Booked in advance it was only £9, and the Motor Museum now includes access to the reserve collection and Jaguar Trust adjacent to the main building. For me it was the chance to see Mostyn, but Leicester Belgrave Road was impressive too. A fair few larger layouts this year, some early teething troubles, but a good selection some of which were new for me. Well worth a visit, busy but not as packed as I have seen it. Nearholmer
Very good venue, and universally excellent work on show. One observation was that the demographic of attendees was, even by the standards of our hobby, very much on the grey-haired end of the scale. It's a very 'main stream' show, almost as if it has been put together by a marketing team (is it?) rather than pure hobbyists, but see my first sentence. Self and young not-into-trains son enjoyed it. Kevin

Crantock
I went along yesterday afternoon. I wouldn't say it was overly oldie. I would say it was professionally put together with thought on the mix of traders and quality of presentation. I.e. Those traders that look like junk shops were excluded. The traders also included a reasonable spattering of specialists. Yes the exhibits were mainstream-specifically UK 00 (and other 4mm) n and o. Exclusively UK and predominantly 4mm. But it is a Hornby Mag show. Although a quality Conf centre, I still don't like the layout, small rooms, corridors and pinch points.

RMweb Premium 7013 Posted October 8, 2017 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 8, 2017 Spent the day there yesterday, the show was excellent with some superb layouts. Looked to be very well attended and I was able to get most of the things on my list. Yes the demographic of people attending does tend to erre on the grey side, however I did notice a lot more women at the show than usual and not just as long suffering wives/girlfriends. There was good knowledge being shown. This is not meant to be patronising at all, just refreshing to see our hobby reaching all genders these days which must be good.
lmsforever
Went today and had an excellent day the venue is very good and a pleasure to go to,layouts were a very good mixture with a good selection of traders.Agree about the lighting and the catering is better than the NEC also the cars were well worth a visit .Rannoch Moor looked good as ever nice to see again Mark see you in Glasgow ,Middlesborugh,s layout was also one worth watchin the prefabs brought back memories of a long time ago.Palins Yard a well built layout and a very pleasant owner he even fixes broken glasses for visitors. Overall a very pleasant day and I shall be back next year. well balanced show
RMweb Premium ELTEL Posted October 8, 2017 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted October 8, 2017 Having just got home as one of the small team behind Crimson Road a big thank you to Mike Wild and the Hornby Magazine for there efforts in putting a most enjoyable exhibition and in great surroundings. A couple of points following yesterday’s comments was the average age seemed a lot younger today with many families and children which is good to see. I am afraid I beg to differ with the previous posting in that the catering was better than the NEC The choice was very limited and certainly not as good as previous years. But a great exhibition and Crimson Road won the cup for best DCC layout Crimson Road also appears in the November issue of the Hornby Magazine for those of you that were unable to attend the Hornby exhibition Happy Modelling Eltel
peter220950
Palins Yard a well built layout and a very pleasant owner he even fixes broken glasses for visitors. Thanks for the kind comments, nice to catch up with some RMWebbers 'in the flesh', I was amazed that I managed to find the screw out of the guys glasses, when I drop a 4mm bolt at home I can't even find that. The layout seemed to integrate well into our Club Stand, and it got quite busy at times, We had a few setbacks, but by and large it ran well, learned an awful lot and secured a couple of Exhibition invites. I didn't get a chance to see any of the Exhibition, but it seemed pretty busy for most of the time. Thanks to my two Club colleagues who helped out and took some of the load. Kelly
A great weekend. It is usually a great show, and this year didn't dissapoint. Congratulations to Mostyn for being voted best layout, well deserved (thanks for letting me have a go too!). I'll process the rest of the photos and put them onto Flickr later on (a few pictures of the P class have been posted on the Hattons P thread already).

RMweb Gold gwrrob Posted October 10, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 10, 2017 Mostyn was well deserving of winning a trophy at this show and although blue diesels aren't my bag it's an outstanding layout. Nice touches were all the road vehicles having drivers etc and a man from the operating team letting lads have a go at shunting from the front whilst in the full glare of the public. Brilliant. Faultless, smooth dcc sound running with plenty of a variety of stock shown.

Faultless, smooth dcc sound running with plenty of a variety of stock shown. Whilst I was let loose operating it, there were a number of kids interested at the front, especially as Mr Sutton was letting them shunt the sidings using the sound fitted 24 and the 08, which seemed to go down well with the kids. RMweb Gold Gilbert Posted October 10, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 10, 2017 Tis a fact - the youngsters like the sound - and it helps control their need for speed. I have two "twig"layouts with sound locos that I let the kids play with at shows and they seem keen.
