cornamuse
Hi guys- after a long break from Gainford Spa (see elsewhere in here) I return with more cardboard mayhem- Firstly a narrow gauge station based on West Bay station Mostly foam board and mounting board, scribed and painted, my usual schtick. We even have the aptly named Mr. William Dribble, ready for active service in the urinal... In terms of rolling stock, the quarry hunslet in the pictures- requested by the small controller to resemble Britomart- is almost entirely thick high quality card, layers built up and laminated with superglue. This makes for a very light strong structure, easily capable of serving as a chassis or bodywork. And also a couple of Ffestiniog Bug Boxes: More soon as it develops- also more on the 7mm front as I have a new micro brewing... RMweb Gold PaulRhB Posted October 13, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 13, 2017 (edited) That station is beautiful, top notch building and painting. Edited October 13, 2017 by PaulRhB
cornamuse
Here are some more of the loco- almost complete except for driver and nameplates. The chassis and "grubbins" any purists are probably throwing up- and as for Britomart's designer - probably spinning in his grave, poor devil! It's inside chassis, not outside and the rods are stiff wire and electrical connectors... oh deary me. It works, though amazingly! And there she is, happily pulling our 3 rather nice, but very heavy IP Engineering coaches. Doesn't do it fast, but then neither would the original, to be honest. Total cost, maybe £60, as I splashed out on Slaters wheels. Dodgy old motor from god knows where, and the good quality card. That was built up as a kit, designing on the computer and using my card cutter to cut the pieces accurately (and let me be lazy) The coach ain't card, but the crests are- drawn out at A3 and then reduced to REALLY small! Oh- I draw other stuff too and since you are wondering, the animal is a labradox - part Labrador, part fox. Invented by the small controller. cornamuse
And some of the station- And the canopy and brackets- also using the Silhouette card cutter- no way I could do the canopy edge or the supporting brackets so neatly without it!
BG John
Glad to see there's none of this namby pamby health and safety stuff, with ridiculous rules like 6ft between buildings and the platform edge . I wonder if I could get away with your method of making coupling and connecting rods in O-16.5!
cornamuse
And now a little taster- what is smaller, narrower, but just as pointless... (nods of appreciation to BGJohn) This is the very early plans for the next 7mm module - a goods shed, carriage works, offices and a main line station. All in 2'x1'. With no points. Yes, I'm daft.

Barely 12" between station and platform edge... lord help anyone in a hurry rushing out the door! I wonder if I could get away with your method of making coupling and connecting rods in O-16.5! Perhaps- do they do smaller connectors? It is pretty robust and very easy to adjust to make sure everything works...

Yes, I'm daft. Mine is a bit too straightforward! I think that having hidden sector plates, traversers and stuff is much more interesting. 2'x1' is impressive. I thought my new O-16.5 layout in 4'x1' was a bit on the small side, but it does have quite a few points! I'm currently pondering on what to do with a Hornby Smokey Joe, and your loco is giving me some ideas.

They are available in a variety of sizes, so maybe I'll investigate. They produce a nice eccentric look.
cornamuse
I'm currently pondering on what to do with a Hornby Smokey Joe, and your loco is giving me some ideas. You are welcome to the drawings- I'm pretty sure I can make them into PDF files somehow- even if it is just a screen dump- and I have a whole load of PDF kits for 7mm narrow gauge in card if you like. Edit- just found out you have a silhouette- so you are welcome to those files too. Edited October 13, 2017 by cornamuse
BG John
You are welcome to the drawings- I'm pretty sure I can make them into PDF files somehow- even if it is just a screen dump- and I have a whole load of PDF kits for 7mm narrow gauge in card if you like. I don't think the loco drawings would help, but the photos you've posted do. Your 7mm NG PDFs would be a big help though, as I have a serious lack of rolling stock. I was looking at your drawing of a FR Bug Box not long ago, with the idea of turning it into a Silhouette cutting file. Hiding the chassis makes them a much easier project, than having to make all the underframe bits too! The layout I've just started is based on Wantage, so is basically a tramway, but as far as I'm concerned anything goes!
cornamuse
thinking about that smokey joe, John, my 7mm Nielsen box locos might fit the bill- one is actually powered by bits out of a smokey joe, as is my LNER tram...
cornamuse
Tried the 7mm layout with track. Not going to have much space on this little one! However, will now be posting its development on Gainford Spa
BG John
thinking about that smokey joe, John, my 7mm Nielsen box locos might fit the bill- one is actually powered by bits out of a smokey joe, as is my LNER tram... I've got a few chassis to find uses for. Anything that can be made to look a bit eccentric, and is suitable for a NG tramway based on Wantage (but set in a parallel universe) is worth considering . Did you get my PM?

cornamuse
Not much progress- but here we go- some work on the waiting room. Maybe I should be doing dolls' houses
cornamuse
Finally got round to finishing the basic detailing inside the station- going to put it to bed for a bit and work on other aspects of the layout (and the 7mm one (and the Saxon village with my small human )). The waiting room Ticket office Through the window Just noticed the absence of door knobs

cornamuse
Fantastic work as always, what is the switch for on the loco? Thank you! Well spotted- I was intending an isolating switch- might now be on off for sound...
Hesperus
Isolating switches sound like a good idea actually, most 0 gauge and bigger locos would have space somewhere and it would save mucking about with isolating sections or horror of horrors DCC. On Leintwardine I foolishly didn't include any isolating sections as it was supposed to be one engine in steam so end up derailing the other engine when I have a rare two working engines operating session.
