Following Mike's comments I have curved the main line round more to allow a view for spectators into the depths of the station

I found a very early photo of an Eastern Counties Rly 2-2-2 tank. I am pretty sure that it is next to the real loco siding at Blackwall - just the other side of the overbridge to the station. I have done a mirror image here to show what my model loco siding might look like - a mirror image on the wrong side of the bridge!

You can clearly see masts of sailing ships in the background. Given the angle of the building etc this could only be Blackwall, I think. The dark recess appears to be a covered coaling stage. The building next to it may have been the base for a water tank at one time, I suspect. Old OS maps show larger facilities for the servicing of engines as well as carriage sheds, but most seem to have been demolished early on.
