mswjr
Hi All, I am thinking of building one of the above in 3 1/2 inch gauge,as i have just finished my 5 inch gauge loco, and im looking for a new project, The above loco is quite appealing to me,especially with the round spectacle plate,so it is linda or blanche, So my knowledge on narrow gauge is quite limited, So can someone tell me wear i can get some good info on these engines in the ORIGINAL form, either online or books or whatever, Anything most appreciated. Quarryscapes
Standard starting point would be Quarry Hunslets of North Wales by Cliff Thomas. There is also J.I.C. Boyd's Narrow gauge in North Caernarfonshire v2 on the Penrhyn for their early lives and The Festiniog Railway v2 for later life (though the exact volume required here varies by print run). Do let me know if you find any good drawings as I'm tempted to do a 16mm one. Edited October 20, 2017 by Quarryscapes
PGH
16mm scale drawings of LINDA and CHARLES by Don Townsley were published in the Magazine MODEL RAILWAYS. The drawing of LINDA appeared in the October 1976 issue and the drawing of CHARLES in the March 1978 issue.
RMweb Gold ngtrains.com Posted October 20, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 20, 2017 FR Boston Lodge Works has copies of the GA and many of the detail drawings if you go that far. There may well be scale engineering drawings out there as several have been built for 7 1/4 gauge
Mike Storey
I know this does not meet your requirement for them in their original state, but you will find drawings, but only as preserved, of Linda and Blanche in this, but not Charles. You will need to blow them up to the scale you want, but otherwise, these may meet most of your needs, from which you will have to make deductions about the original state, possibly from the notes held at Boston Lodge, as suggested above. https://www.7mmnga.org.uk/sales/publication_details.php?ref=NLE12 Of course, unless any of the publications suggested above include drawings that are of their original state, you may also want to contact Tony Williams at the Boston Lodge works, to see if he has anything original (contact shown on the Festiniog website), but I would be surprised, as they were brought from the Penrhyn where most of the original records were lost. The original Hunslet works are now owned by Wabtec, but I suppose it would do no harm to ask if they have anything in their archives. There are some articles in back issues of 16mm Today, the in-house mag of the 16mmNG Association, which are by people who have built models of Charles and Linda, but what version, I do not know, as I have not kept those editions. You can buy back copies through their website. https://www.16mm.org.uk/publications/16mm-today/16mm-today-index/by-subject/ Good luck!

Boston Lodge have original drawings - I have copied them for my own use - I volunteer there The Hunslet Drawings are part of the archive owned by Leeds Industrial Museum but lodged with Statfold Barn Railway who are digitising and cataloguing them
