RateTheFreight
Afternoon all, Does anyone have or know of a link to historic maps of London's various tram routes? I've looked online but can't find anything specific to what I'm after. It doesn't have to be a geographic map, I'd settle for a London Underground style map with route numbers on too! Thanks in advance. Greg

Arun Sharma
London transport Museum at Covent Garden will happily sell you fold-up A2 sized Greater London bus maps showing you what the bus, tram, trolleybus and Underground systems looked like at various dates such as Jan 1943, Jun 1958, Jan 1993 and up to the present day etc - as well as various dates in between. These are facsimile reprints of the original maps of those periods [which of course were given away free at the time]. add. - The 1943 one sitting on my desk at present also has surface rail such as the lines to Vine Street and Colnbrook on it. bécasse
There is an excellent website at http://www.tundria.com/trams/tramways-index.shtml which provides system maps for many of the world's tramway systems at specific dates - 1934, 1940 and 1952 in the case of the historic London systems. Most of London's historic network was still in use in 1934 although, notably, the LUT routes in the Kingston area had already been converted to trolleybus operation by then, and a few other oddments had been lost.
