TEDDYBEAR D9521
Does anyone know whether D832 worked any trains for the RTC before it became a dead load vehicle? If it did, are there any pictures? No it never worked any RTC trains just used as a dead load. After withdrawal at Laira in Dec 72 it was moved to Derby RTC in Jan 73 it was used as a dead load until Oct 74 on the Old Dalby test track. It was moved from there to Eggington Jct in Sept 1976 where it lay out of use until preservation. Hope this helps. Dubaimike
Thanks Gareth, that answers my question. I asked for a couple of reasons, firstly "The Book of the Warships" mentions 870 being sent to Derby for experiments with gas turbines, (and I'd love to know more about that) but was returned as unsuitable because of collision damage, so I wondered if 832 was the replacement. Secondly I read on another forum that 832 had a minor overhaul, including a bogie change I think, at Laira before being sent to Derby, so I thought that might indicate it was to be used as motive power. Anyway, apparently not, so at least I know why I haven't seen any pictures of 832 on RTC trains. Thanks again Mike

RMweb Gold russ p Posted October 29, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 29, 2017 There was a bizarre plan to equip one end of it with a traction motor and pantograph! This was in the APT book as the experiments were in connection with it
